Description
The present invention relates to a Wegeleitsystem and a method for Wegfindung and localization of pedestrians, in particular for Wegfindung and localization of pedestrians in a closed area.
Wayfinding systems serve to answer the questions of location and pathfinding within closed areas such as buildings or areas (eg airports, shopping centers, exhibition centers). The users are typically people moving through the closed area on foot, even using escalators and elevators. Wayfinding systems are sometimes referred to as navigation systems and / or customer guidance systems.
The orientation and orientation in large building complexes (trade fairs, shopping centers, company headquarters, airports, etc.) often turns out to be extremely difficult. For example, GPS signals in these buildings often can not be received or are too inaccurate. If available, overview plans must be painstakingly interpreted. Furthermore, such maps typically require a lot of space and often need to be replaced to be up-to-date. A more recent development is guidance systems or indoor navigation systems in which the route is displayed in a map after entering the destination via a publicly accessible touchscreen or a kiosk system. However, all previous systems have in common that they represent the three-dimensional space only two-dimensional. But space and path information are processed and remembered in three dimensions (so-called mental or cognitive map). If the user sets off with the information that has been eclipsed from the map display, he will hardly "recognize" the room. Especially in large multi-storey buildings, the presentation is very poor. Instead of displaying the building "as a whole", several sections of the map must be viewed in succession or side by side. In particular, the panned map display requires a strong spatial imagination of the user.

In view of the above, it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an improved routing system that overcomes at least some of the problems discussed above.
This object is achieved by a routing system according to claim 1 and a method for routing pedestrians in a closed area according to claim 24. Further aspects, details, advantages and features of the present invention will become apparent from the dependent claims, the description and the accompanying drawings.
According to one embodiment, a guidance system for locating and routing pedestrians in a closed area is provided. The routing system includes a database resource that includes spatial information regarding the closed area that allows three-dimensional representation of at least a portion of the closed area in real time. Furthermore, the routing system comprises a destination input means adapted to set at least one destination point located in the closed area and a route determiner adapted to determine a path within the closed area between a starting point and the destination point. In addition, the guidance system has a visualization means adapted to create a three-dimensional representation from the spatial information and the particular path in real time, and a presentation means adapted to render the three-dimensional representation, the path being in the form of a line in FIG the three-dimensional representation is displayed. Furthermore, the guidance system comprises perspective selection means for selecting the perspective of the three-dimensional representation between an ego perspective and / or a guidance perspective and / or an exocentric perspective and / or a vertical perspective and / or an overall perspective, the perspective being changeable during the presentation ,
The routing system according to the embodiments of the present invention allows the three-dimensional representation of the path in completed area. Typically, this is achieved using virtual reality technology (VR technology). In this way, for example, the interior of a complex building can be displayed as it actually looks to the user. Thus, the way can be shown entirely from different perspectives and the user the way z. B. already in advance virtually run. The system is self-explanatory, answering the way query is done in seconds, and an algorithm calculates and presents the cheapest way. In this way, a user can see the entire building structure, its own location, the chosen destination and the cheapest way there. Due to the three-dimensional representation in real time (VR technology), the system is largely self-explanatory, so that no or at least hardly any reading and / or language skills are needed for understanding. Furthermore, the completed area is displayed "as a whole". It is not, as usual, different floor cards behind or presented side by side. By omitting the map display objects can be displayed in three dimensions, so that these objects can be easily recognized later. The system conveys so-called route and overview knowledge, which represents the highest form of spatial knowledge. Using the VR technique, the presented environment can be easily updated.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the database means, the route determining means and the visualization means are arranged in a central processing unit, the destination input means and the presentation means in a terminal unit, the central unit and the terminal unit being connected to each other via a data connection. According to an alternative embodiment of the present invention, the database means and the route determining means are arranged in a central unit, the destination input means, the visualization means and the presentation means in a terminal unit, the central unit and the terminal unit being connected to each other via a data connection.
The routing system according to the present invention is therefore so flexible that the three-dimensional real-time representation can be calculated either on a central system, for example a central server, or independently in a respective terminal unit.
According to another embodiment, a view of the three-dimensional representation of the closed area moves along the path from the starting point to the destination point. In this case, the path is displayed in the form of a line in the three-dimensional representation, wherein the line can be formed from at least one path segment and the starting point and or the target point can be highlighted. For example, the line may be formed as a three-dimensional bar, as a three-dimensional tube, as a two-dimensional band or as an arrow.
Furthermore, the guidance system comprises perspective selection means for selecting the perspective of the three-dimensional representation between an ego perspective and / or a guidance perspective and / or an exocentric perspective and / or a vertical perspective and / or an overall perspective. The guidance system therefore offers the user various perspectives, so that he can already walk the path virtually in advance (for example, in the egocentric or ego-centric perspective), before he then goes real. Additionally or alternatively, the user may see the building and the path in its entirety (for example, in the bird or exocentric perspective). The user can then safely access his destination, since he has already walked the path virtually once and the whole building is known to him after viewing. Using VR technology, any room in the building, or any section of the closed area, can be viewed from any perspective. Furthermore, the VR technique allows several perspectives to be displayed side by side or in one another (PiP = Picture in Picture) at the same time in order to combine the advantages of all perspectives.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, the terminal unit is further configured to output the distance from the currently displayed point on the way to the destination point, typically optically and / or acoustically outputting the distance to the destination point and / or the time to reach the destination point. In particular, so-called "moving duration", ie. H. the duration of the actual movement from the place of departure to the destination, understood by the adjustable "Moving Speed", d. H. the movement speed depends. It should be noted that the playing time and the actual duration ("Moving Duration") are independent of each other. This has the advantage that the virtual expiration can happen quickly and thus the user request is answered quickly.
According to a further embodiment, the terminal unit may comprise a touch-sensitive screen and / or a pointing device and / or a keyboard and / or a voice input device, wherein the terminal unit may in particular have a graphical user interface. Typically, the graphical user interface may include a presentation area for displaying the three-dimensional representation of the path and include a destination selection area for inputting the destination point. According to another embodiment, the graphical user interface may further comprise a perspective selection area and / or a distance indication area.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the spatial information is provided as a set of real number triples. In particular, the spatial information may be provided in the form of CAD data of the closed area. According to another embodiment, a road network in the closed area may be represented by nodes and edges in the database means. The edges may, for example, be represented by linear splines or else higher-order splines. In particular, a respective edge may be assignable with associated costs or a cost function. The path determining means could then be arranged to take into account the cost of the edges in determining the path. In particular, the route determining means may be arranged to determine the route with the lowest total cost. The cost function can be proportional to the real length of the edge. In this way, the shortest route is determined by minimizing the cost function. However, according to another embodiment, the cost function may also reflect the "difficulty" of a particular path, for example due to stairs or similar obstacles. In this way, for example, the best individual way for a particular group of people such. B. handicapped or blind persons can be determined by minimizing the cost function.
According to a further development of the present invention, the Wegeiteitsystem may further comprise a control means adapted to control the Wegermittlung by the Wegermittlungsmittel. For example, the control means may be arranged to set costs for edges and / or to delete edges and / or nodes. In this way, for example, current disturbances in the building technology can be taken into account via the control means. For example, the "cost" of a failed escalator can be significantly increased because the escalator is still usable but not so comfortable. Falls z. B. an elevator completely off, so its "cost" could be set to infinity or representing the elevator edge could be at least temporarily deleted. According to other developments, the control means may influence the 3D representation of the imaged space and / or the possible controllable destination points. In addition, textual and / or pictorial information can be provided to the user by means of the control means. The changes generated by the control means can be immediately updated and provided to the user immediately.
According to yet another embodiment of the present invention, the central processing unit may be configured to derive further formats for different output media (eg printers or mobile devices) from the three-dimensional real-time representation. In particular, for example, a movie sequence can be created and this movie sequence transmitted to a mobile terminal unit. In this way, the routing system for mobile terminal units, such as handhelds, cell phones, etc., could be adapted. The mobile application for the Wegeiteitsystem can for example be downloaded via Bluetooth, infrared or by cable from the Internet or at a terminal or transferred to the mobile device. In this case, the representation is typically not rendered real-time, but precomputed and output as a movie sequence. This is done, for example, by means of "animated GIFs" which can be output using a MIDlet typically generated in Java. In another example, the application interface of the guidance system may be invoked in a mobile phone browser (eg, OperaMini). Since the 3D rendering is still very informative even at a low resolution, only small file sizes are needed.
According to yet another embodiment, the routing system is set up to generate an identification code for a respective destination selection of a user and output it to the user. This can be particularly important in larger complexes, if there are several terminal units are set up. The routing system can then be set up to display the route from the location of this terminal unit to the terminal unit next to the selected destination point and / or to the destination point after entering the identification code at a terminal unit. In this way, the user is guided in clear stretches from one terminal to the next until he arrives at his destination. Due to the clearly long sections of the user does not lose his orientation, since he only has to remember the way for the next section. Furthermore, this identification code can also be provided by other media (eg in the form of a barcode on an entry ticket or a plane ticket). The destination code (eg the flight number) can be "translated" to a destination by the central processing unit.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, a method for pedestrian tracking in a closed area includes providing spatial information regarding the closed area, which is a allow three-dimensional representation of at least a portion of the closed area in real time. Furthermore, the method includes determining at least one target point located in the closed region, determining a path within the closed region between a starting point and the target point, creating a three-dimensional representation in real time from the spatial information and the determined path, and displaying the three-dimensional representation. Typically, a view of the three-dimensional representation of the closed area is moved along the path from the starting point to the destination point. Furthermore, the path can be displayed in the form of a line, for example as a three-dimensional bar, as a three-dimensional tube or as a two-dimensional band, in the three-dimensional representation. Typically, the user may select a perspective of the three-dimensional representation between a first-person perspective and / or a leadership perspective and / or an exocentric perspective and / or a vertical perspective.

With respect to the above-described embodiments of the present invention, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the routing system can be designed for fixed-mount kiosk systems or touch-screen terminals in the entrance and intersection areas of buildings. Likewise, the routing system can also be called up via the Internet (eg by means of ADSL or UMTS) from any networked computer. Compared to a conventional building plan, no card must be interpreted consuming and cumbersome to find where the user is on this map. Furthermore, the desired destination does not have to be located on the map, and in particular does not have to determine the viewing direction and the shortest path must be found out. The guidance system saves the user considerable effort and time. Furthermore, customer flows can be channeled. The Wegeleitsystem also conveys a modern image and also has "experience character". For the first time in the routing system according to the embodiments of the present invention VR technology is integrated into an indoor routing system. By using VR, the content of the 3D space can be easily updated. The path can be individually calculated on a server and displayed on the client (terminal) in three dimensions. The system offers different perspectives for presentation, between which you can switch between them. Furthermore, areas (eg elevators) can be blocked by the building operator in a matter of seconds.
Furthermore, the above-described Wegeleitsystem can be operated in all major Internet browsers. An installation-free applet version of the routing system can be created, which only needs one (free) 3D player. Due to the use of certain ISO formats, a transfer to mobile devices is possible.
Furthermore, the building or area is displayed "as a whole". Ie. the user is not presented with different map levels for different floors in a row. This provides route and overview knowledge. Furthermore, by dispensing with the map display in 3D space, objects can be presented in three dimensions, so that the route can then easily be recognized. The information can be quickly and easily communicated to the user, since the system is particularly self-explanatory and special reading and language skills are not or hardly needed.
The routing system may be platform independent, where the presentation may be within an internet browser and using a suitable means of presentation. If the routing system is provided as a platform-independent version, it does not need to be installed nor does it make any writes to the presenting machine. An integrated algorithm detects if and what kind of display means is installed on the terminal unit and launches the most appropriate player. In particular, the routing system application may be retrieved on mobile terminal devices such as PDAs or cell phones. In particular, in such mobile applications, it would also be possible to create a film sequence from the three-dimensional real-time representation and to transmit this film sequence as a three-dimensional representation to the mobile terminal unit. In this way, the computational and presentation effort on the mobile terminal device can be reduced.
The guidance system described in this application can be used particularly advantageously by operators of airports and railway stations, operators of department stores and shopping centers, tourism companies and hotel operators, trade fair operators, universities, housing associations, organizers of major events, operators of museums and libraries, authorities / Offices / company headquarters and hospital operators. In particular, the Wegeiteitsystem personnel savings and rationalization can be achieved. The staff employed can be significantly relieved, considering that about 85 percent of all customer questions in the retail sector are orientation issues and occupy about 20 percent of the staff's working time. Furthermore, a cost reduction can be achieved since, for example, overview plans do not have to be changed, printed and exchanged. Through suitable cost functions, the guidance system can increase the disability-friendliness of a building or other enclosed area.
The present invention has been explained with reference to exemplary embodiments. These embodiments should by no means be construed as limiting the present invention.
