Abstract

背景技术
最近,表和其它的可佩戴装置开始提供除了简单的时间显示之外的其它功能。例如,某些表包括键盘,从而使得该表可以存储或者取出信息例如地址或者电话号码。但是,这些装置都保持在刚性的,有时甚至是一个笨重的壳体内。对于一个比较活跃的使用者例如一个跑步锻炼的人来说,一个相对来说不怎么笨重的常规手表也可能是令人讨厌的。
发明概要
本发明提供了一种轻的可佩戴装置,该装置具有一个内置显示器。该装置舒适地与佩戴者的身体相适应,并且在正常使用和携带过程中可以承受通常由手表或者其它可佩戴装置,例如臂章、戒指或者腰带所经历的那种类型和大小的弯曲,而不会破坏显示元件或者丢失所显示的信息。
总的来说,根据本发明的一个方面,本发明的可佩戴装置的特征是包括一个可戒指绕佩戴者固定的柔性主体。该柔性主体包括一个集成电路、一个柔性显示元件和用于控制该显示元件的电路。
其它的实施例可以包括下面的一个或者多个特征。主体可以作成一个带子例如表带。主体可以由纸、加强纸、硬纸板或者其它材料制成。特别是,主体可以由聚酯、ABS、聚碳酸酯或者模制聚合物例如聚氯乙烯或者檀香烯(Santoprene)制成。
柔性显示元件能够在断电时继续显示信息。例如可通过设置阻挡条来提供多种颜色和/或提供立体效果的显示。该装置可以取出存储在集成电路内的图象信息并且连续地在显示元件上显示该图象信息。
该可佩戴装置还可包括如面接触元件或无线通信元件这样的通信元件。所述的集成电路可以使用通信元件提供智能卡功能。除了所述的集成电路和/或协处理器外,该装置还包括一个信息存储介质。
该可佩戴装置可包括一电源。这样的电源可以是可再充电的,例如通过一个调节器和充电控制器进行充电。该装置的主体易于实现电源的更换。该装置还可包括一个控制电能使用的突跳启动电路。
该装置可包括如压电式扬声器这样的扬声器。该装置还可以包括如压电式麦克风这样的麦克风。该装置还可包括如获取生理数据或者计程器数据等的传感器。
本发明的有益效果如下所述。通过消除了电子元件和显示器的壳体,本发明提供了一个小型、轻便和舒适的装置。将智能卡功能包括到该装置内使得该装置可以在锻炼身体或者其它情况下使用,例如病人治疗时使用。
从后面的说明书和权利要求书的说明,本发明的其它特点和优点将会更加清楚。

最佳实施例说明
参考附图1,可佩戴装置10包括柔性显示元件12和构成可佩戴装置10的主体的带子22。带子22将该可佩戴装置10固定到人的手腕上。不同尺寸的带子22可以将可佩戴装置10固定到身体的其它部位例如脚踝、腿、手指或者非生物体上。可佩戴装置10具有轻质柔性元件,从而使得该可佩戴装置可以配合到给定的表面上,并且形成一个细长的外形。在锻炼身体过程中,装置10可以安全地承受通常由表、脚镯等等所经历的那种类型和大小的弯曲。
如图所示,带子22具有一个过模、柔性聚合物(例如聚亚安酯)材料的带扣24。在带扣24的轨道作用下,带子孔23可以与带扣24啮合。一个模制坡面25提供了一个卡紧机构,该卡紧机构可以与带子孔23啮合。从带扣24上沿着径向将带子22拉离手腕可以从带扣24上解下带子22。
作为另外一种形式,带子22可以使用尼龙搭扣(velcro)、塞子和孔机构或者其它紧固装置。
可佩戴装置10通过柔性显示元件12和可提供多路八度音节声音的薄膜柔性压电式扬声器21提供信息。授权给Park的美国专利US 5,115,472描述了一种由聚合物膜制成的柔性压电式扬声器/麦克风,该专利作为本申请的参考。可佩戴装置10可以通过输入键18接收信息。压电式扬声器/麦克风21也可以使可佩戴装置10接收声音信息。
可佩戴装置10可以借助于通信元件16与外部装置,如计算机或者智能卡阅读器进行通信联系。该通信元件16可以是无线电感环路,通过丝网印制方法固定到可佩戴装置10的主体内。通信元件16可以使可佩戴装置10处理RF通信,例如蜂窝式消息收发服务通信。
作为另外一种形式,通信元件16可以采用屏蔽式电触头形式。由于可佩戴装置10可能比一个智能卡的宽度窄,因此在可佩戴装置10使用一个电触头通信元件16的情况下,需要利用一个无源机械适配器将该可佩戴装置10连接到一个智能卡阅读器上。
可佩戴装置10可以包括如柔性薄膜锂电池这样的电源14,例如OakRidge National Laboratories所生产的薄膜锂电池。但是,柔性显示元件12不需要电源就可进行静态显示。
参考附图2A和2B,该装置10包括保护性顶层26和底层28以及内部分隔器27。顶层26利用一种透明材料例如PVC或者透明塑料覆盖显示元件。另外顶层26和底层28也可以由柔性聚合物例如聚碳酸酯制成。其它的实施例可以使用塑料、纸、加强纸、硬纸板、聚氯乙烯、聚酯或者ABS作为层状材料。顶层26和底层28可以包括印刷标记。在顶层26和底层28上连接聚合物磨边20从而可以增加佩戴者的舒适性和该可佩戴装置10的防水性。
顶层26和底层28可以模制或者机加工成所需形状以容纳内部的元件。这些内部元件包括安装到印刷电路板36上的集成电路39。该集成电路39可以提供各种功能:从提供简单的数字时钟到处理视频图形信息。集成电路39可以包括微处理器40。附图2B所示剖面图中,集成电路39的尺寸被有意夸大。
柔性显示元件12可以由各种材料制成。在一个实施例中,透明的电极30(铟锡氧化物或者其它透明导电材料)被沉积在顶层26和底层28的内表面上。这些电极也可以设置成提供点阵图形或者分段显示图形。z轴导电元件34(为一种公知的聚合物材料,该材料只是沿着z轴方向具有导电能力)提供从印刷电路板到电极的导电通路。这两个电极形成叉状进入到电极层19a和19b内,所述的电极层位于顶层26和底层28上。
这些电极与液晶显示器(LCD)薄膜32一起工作,该液晶显示器的材料为双稳态显示材料或者多稳态显示材料,当断开电源时该液晶显示器仍然可以保留一个图象。通过这种方式,可以使得可佩戴装置10没有必要为了执行显示功能而具有自己的电源或者连接到电源上。LCD的优选材料是铁电LCD。这些LCD材料是基于具有特征性的近晶C相的典型近晶液晶。当铁电材料形成为薄层时,该材料具有一定的净极化,该净极化垂直于视平面。这些电极施加一个电场,该电场在“开”和“关”状态之间旋转净极化。铁电材料的LCD通常对冲击或者弯曲敏感,因此使得这些LCD不适合于用于柔性显示元件12,因为该柔性显示元件12需要弯曲和弯折。为了使得铁电材料LCD对弯曲不太敏感,该铁电材料液晶(FLC)被固定到聚合物的侧链上,以形成LCD薄膜(例如,日本专利文献JP63318526所启示的方式)或者该铁电材料液晶(FLC)固定到FLC可以分散到聚合物薄膜中的地方(例如,美国专利US 5,638,194所启示的方式)。结果,即使在弯折位置时(例如,当缠绕到一个佩戴者的手腕上时)该显示器也可以显示信息。
其它的实施例中则可以包括不同的显示元件例如悬浮颗粒显示器或者发光聚合物显示器。但是,这些显示器需要电源来显示图象。
参考图3,集成电路39的微处理器40控制驱动器电路42,该驱动器电路形成适合于激活和停用显示元件象素的电压。该显示器驱动电路也可以利用商业上无源显示器中所使用的多路复用技术来快速地刷新显示器。在装置10内的电源或者一个外部电源(例如智能卡阅读器)可以为微处理器40和其它装置提供所需电源。在驱动器电路的输出端上的极性开关选择是行还是列电极接收正极。行/列选择器开关确定哪一具体行/列对接收极性开关和驱动器电路所产生的电压。微处理器40控制驱动器电路42、极性开关44和行/列选择器开关46。对显示器的柔性作出贡献的是聚合物基底(顶层和底层)和用于连接印刷电路板和电极19之间的z轴导电元件。该z轴导电元件可以承受弯曲所产生的各种压缩。
通过取出和显示所存储的信息,微处理器40也可以显示一个图形图象或者一系列图象以在显示元件12上产生动态序列。这些图象可以形成视频消波效果或者幻灯效果。
参考附图4,可佩戴装置10可以借助于输入键18接收输入信息。作为优选的方式,输入键18为导电性凹形“圆顶开关”,夹持在可佩戴装置10的顶层和底层之间。在圆顶开关的正下方的局部区域内部设置一个刚性材料,以增加开关的可靠性和改善开关的触觉反馈。按压圆顶开关18可以实现电连接,集成电路39测量该电连接的闭合性。这种连接发生在利用导电墨通过丝网印制方法固定到底层上的电路上。
参考附图5,由电源14供电的微处理器40控制可佩戴装置10的各个功能。除了通信元件16外,输入键18、麦克风21和微处理器40都可以接收来自传感器60的输入信息。传感器60监测可佩戴装置10佩戴者的生理状况。例如,压电聚合物薄膜,如聚偏二氟乙烯(PVDF)薄膜,可以收集不同的生理声音数据,例如佩戴者的心率。其它的传感器可以探测电能,因此可以收集心电图(ECG)数据。所收集的数据可以显示和/或者存储用于将来的下载使用,从而为健康护理提供心率、异常心律等等信息。可佩戴装置10可以使用传感器,例如加速计,来收集和显示计程器数据。
微处理器40不仅驱动显示器12而且支持多种应用。例如,一种应用是提供与不同的智能卡通信协议的兼容性。该特点允许可佩戴装置10具有智能卡功能。今天智能卡的一个最普遍的功能是作为储值卡使用,嵌入在该储值卡内的微芯片可以含有一定的货币值。其它的智能卡功能包括提供与ATM取款机、GSM(全球系统管理)蜂窝电话、电视机顶盒、PC应用的入口,PC应用包括因特网芯片卡支付系统、可视电话、付费电话、储值系统(有时又称为电子钱包)、公共交通系统、健康保险和健康护理提供者系统、政府资助系统和信用系统例如零售商零售商店。
跑步者在跑步锻炼时通常不愿意携带货币或者其它形式的识别卡,该跑步者可以使用该装置作为定时器、识别卡、生理监视器和作为商品和服务的支付工具而在不断增加的提供智能卡服务的地点使用。当锻炼结束后,跑步锻炼的人可以将收集的数据(例如心率)下载到个人计算机上,用于长期跟踪和显示这些数据。
健康护理提供者可以使用可佩戴装置10方便地将病人的信息传递给病人而可佩戴装置10可以存储和显示药物和治疗情况信息。在对病人进行急诊处理时快速获得这些信息是非常关键的。
微处理器40还可以控制无线通信元件16,以处理手机信息服务。例如,该可佩戴装置10可以接收RF短消息收发服务消息和在显示器12上显示该消息所描述的信息。
微处理器40可以处理如小应用程序(Java applet)等应用程序。这些应用程序可包括减少所传送的信息量的压缩程序/解压程序。
参考附图6,柔性显示元件12可以为佩戴者提供的信息包括由可佩戴装置10的传感器测量的佩戴者的心率48、秒表指示器50、计程器52、当前时间54、保存在装置内的智能卡的货币余额和其它信息。
参考附图7,如上所述,在优选的实施例中,装置10可以包括一个电源14。当可佩戴装置10不怎么消耗电能时,可佩戴装置10可以提供几种节能方法。一个连接到使用者控制接触区域(例如其中的一个输入键)的突跳启动电路70(例如一个控制电源14的轻按开关70)可以控制电能消耗。按压一个接触区域可以促使突跳启动电路70从电源14供应电能。突跳启动电路70可以提供电能到预定的时间或者直到再一次按压接触区域为止。在另外一个实施例中,接触区域可以只是连接断开的电线而从电源14提取电能。这后一个实施例需要在接触区域保持持续的压力以提取电能。如上所述,当电源不再提供电能时,显示元件不需要电能就能显示静态图象。接触区域58可以控制其它的功能例如清除显示元件。
电源14的再充电可以通过多种方式来完成。如图8所示,可佩戴装置10可以包括调节器和充电控制电路74,该电路74借助于电池14内的用于存储的电触头而接收来自外部电源(例如智能卡阅读器)的电流和电压。一个无线装置可以对来自通信信号的电能供应进行再充电,这些信号为增加到可以发射信息和电能的信号。
参考附图9,显示元件12可以提供立体感效果例如三维图象或者可以根据视角改变其外观的图象(例如:一个当观察者移动显示器时不断闪动的表面)。例如,一个LCD阻挡条80(授权给Isona的美国专利5315377中所述的阻挡条,该专利作为本申请的参考)散布在视封堵障碍区以控制观察者看到的图象。通过选择合适的底层LCD图象,阻挡条80可以改变图象的外观。如图9所示,左眼76看到点A而看不到点B,但右眼78看到点B而看不到点A。
参考附图10,一个过滤层88可以在一个单色LCD显示器上增加颜色。该过滤层88可以包括红色、绿色和蓝色的颜色过滤体。象素86或者屏蔽颜色过滤的光或者允许该颜色照射象素86。尽管每一个象素86只是显示红色、绿色或者蓝色,观察者可以将这些颜色在空间进行组合从而可以感受到上述颜色的组合颜色(例如:紫色)。
本发明的其它实施例含在所附的权利要求书的范围之内。例如,其它的材料可以作为柔性顶层和基底,且在该可佩戴装置10内可以包括协处理器。
Claims (34)
1.一种可佩戴装置,包括:
一个柔性主体,其形状和尺寸设置为可环绕佩戴者固定;
至少一个集成电路,装在所述的柔性主体内;
一个柔性显示元件,装在所述的柔性主体内;以及
用于控制所述柔性显示元件的电路,该电路装在所述的柔性主体内并将所述集成电路与所述柔性显示元件连接起来。
2.根据权利要求1所述的装置,其中所述主体由一个带子构成。
3.根据权利要求1所述的装置,其中所述主体由下述元件之一构成:表带,臂章,脚镯,腰带,戒指。
4.根据权利要求1所述的装置,其中所述柔性显示元件能够在切断该显示元件的电源后继续显示信息。
5.根据权利要求1所述的装置,还包括一个通信元件,用于与所述集成电路进行通信。
6.根据权利要求5所述的装置,其中所述通信元件由面接触元件构成。
7.根据权利要求5所述的装置,其中所述通信元件由无线通信元件构成。
8.根据权利要求1所述的装置,其中所述集成电路将信息处理成与智能卡通信标准兼容的信息。
9.根据权利要求1所述的装置,其中所述柔性主体由下述柔性材料中的至少一种制成:塑料,纸,加强纸,硬纸板。
10.根据权利要求9所述的装置,其中所述柔性主体由下述柔性材料中的至少一种制成:聚氯乙烯,聚酯,ABS,聚碳酸酯。
11.根据权利要求1所述的装置,除所述集成电路外还包括至少一个辅助的信息存储介质。
12.根据权利要求1所述的装置,还包括协处理器。
13.根据权利要求1所述的装置,还包括电源。
