Description

带有广告显示器的无线信号器
本发明涉及一种始终开着，并且能够无线接收被显示信息的信号器显示装置。进入家庭的电子信息可显示在电视上，或者在某些情况下可显示在PC上。当电视或PC被关闭时，没有信息被显示。但是通常信息源以广播信号或有线电视信号的形式仍然存在，广播信号或有线电视信号可由本发明的信号器采集。
迄今，已经提出了各种用于遥控显示信息，例如在超市中的货架边缘上显示价格或者在电视机屏幕上显示信息的系统。另外，已提出了具有显示信息的可视显示器，并且包括信用卡及智能卡阅读机以及内置式调制解调器，或者用于与调制解调器通信的适配器的遥控装置。下述美国专利中公开了以前提出的这种遥控装置及遥控显示系统的几个例子。

根据本发明，提供了一种能够无线(借助IR或RF)接收显示信息的低成本信号器显示装置，简单地说就是信号器。与电视或者PC相比，其优点是信号器上的显示器始终是开着的。信号器可用作广告牌，用于推销按次计费事物、产品、服务、优惠券提供或者任何其它广告，以及传送信息，例如体育、新闻、金融、交通、电视指南、游戏、购物及故事片信息。通过增加向主设备无线发送信息的能力，可能实现交互式或者事务处理应用。
在关于信号器屏幕上广告时间的多少向广告客户收费的意义上，信号器上的广告消息是一种信息有效负载。
当信号器与在机顶盒、电视本身、或计算机上运行的交互式应用程序一起使用时，交互式广告出现在商业节目的间隙期间，而不延长到商业节目中是非常重要的。这种情况下，在交互式广告已从电视(或PC)屏幕上消失并且正常节目重新开始之后，通过将广告插入“拖到”信号器屏幕上，信号器可延长用户响应该交互式广告的可用时间。
许多传送信息的系统是双向的，意味着源于用户的信息可被中央“前端设备”读取，或者被输送给中央“前端设备”。这种系统可允许用户仅仅通过按压信号器上的一个按钮进行事务处理，例如对广告提供的响应，从而绕过作为显示设备的电视或PC。
在用于向信号器发送广告的输送介质不是双向的情况下，可提供“旁路”结构用于向中央计算机返回信号。例如，信号器中的低成本无线电发射器可向与电话线相连的自动拨号器的调制解调器发送数据。用户对广告提供的响应随后可由电话发送给中央计算机。
电缆、卫星、或者广播TV是利用机顶盒或者TV本身中的接收电路以及与信号器的IR或RF无线链接，向信号器传送信息的常规手段。不过，利用寻呼网络、无线电台的FM SCA数据、具有与信号器的无线链接或者与计算机(计算机又与远程网络，例如因特网相连)的无线链接的调制解调器，也可绕过到信号器的电缆、卫星或者广播TV下行链接。
不论TV或PC是否被关闭，信号器上的显示能够总是有效并且可读的事实是使用户受到广告的影响的重要延伸。
为了适应在发送装置与信号器之间的无线链路上通常可利用的窄带宽，在被发送给信号器之前，图像可被压缩。或者可利用几种众所周知的压缩算法中的任意一种，例如JPEG压缩位映象图像，或者可把绘图命令发送给在信号器中运行的GDI(图形设备接口)。
通过允许信号器接收可执行代码及静态图像，信号器能够显示动画图形，与用户进行交互式对话，或者更新其自身软件，以增强其有用性。
这样，根据本发明，提供了一种信号器，它包括可视显示器，从主设备接收包括被显示的选定信息的数据的无线接收电路，以及保持在信号器的可视显示器显示的选定信息的软件和/或硬件。

参照图1，图中图解表示了按照本发明教导构造的信号器10。信号器10包括位于其上部面板12上的LCD可视显示器14及键盘15，键盘15包括CH(频道)键16，ARROW UP键18，ARROW DN键20及OK/SEND键22。
要注意在键盘15上可设置更多或更少的按钮或按键。不过，经验证明按钮或按键越少越好，使信号器10操作更简单。一个可增加的按键是ON/OFF键。
图2是穿过图1中所示的信号器10的外壳24的剖视图，表示信号器外壳24包括一个用于安放电路板26及扁平电池28的开口区域。需要的话，可视显示屏14可以是触敏屏幕，并且如图中所示与电路板26连接。
虽然图1中表示的是大体上呈矩形的外壳24，不过信号器也可具有任何想要的形状，例如圆形，以便信号器看起来象饮料盘，并可用作饮料盘。
本发明的信号器的一个重要特征是在外壳24的背面或底面提供了安装结构29。在举例说明的实施例中，该安装结构是一个磁体，非常类似于“冷气机磁体”。
不过也可使用其它安装结构29，例如：
用于把信号器10附着在抗渗表面上的吸盘；
用于把信号器10固定在平面上的粘结剂；
以商标VELCRO销售的，固定在信号器10的一个表面上，并且与固定在要安装信号器10的平面上的钩、环器具相配合的钩、环器具；
用于把信号器固定在适当的物质上，例如衣服上的别针；
用于把信号器10固定或挂在另一物体或人体上的链、绳、带、索或者其它柔性结构。
或者，信号器10可具有用于把信号器支承在基本水平的平面上，使可视显示器14横向面对，非常类似于立式像框中的照片的其它结构，例如折叠结构。
现在参照图3，信号器10的安装在外壳24中电路板26上的电路30包括微处理器32，微处理器32与键盘15、IR接收器34，IR发射器35(需要的话)和/或RF接收器36，以及RF发射器37(需要的话)相连。电池28与电力调节电路38连接，电力调节电路38与需要电力的各种元件耦接。ROM/RAM 40与总线42耦接，总线42与微处理器32连接。
需要的话，EEPROM 44也可与微处理器32耦接。LCD驱动电路46联接在总线42与LCD可视显示器14之间。
需要的话，声音合成芯片48可与微处理器32，及与扬声器50耦接。
另一种修改是提供与微处理器耦接的卡片阅读机52，用于阅读信用卡和/或智能卡。
此外，需要的话，如图所示，可使运动检测电路54与微处理器32耦接。
在信号器10的操作中，信号或者由IR接收器34接收，或者由RF接收器36接收，并且这种信号含有选定信息，一般包括广告。该广告由信号器10中的软件及硬件显示在可视显示器14上，并被保持在显示器14上，除非信号器的用户按下一个按键以显示其它信息，或者发送信息。
现在参照图4，图4是信号器10的基本操作例程的流程图，要注意的是，一旦按下一个按键，就作出了一个决定，如果按下的是ARROWUP键18，则ROM/RAM 40或EEPROM 44中的程序转到图5中所示的子程序A。如果按下的是ARROW DN键20，则程序转到子程序B，它是图5中所示例程的另一端。
如果按下的是OK键22，则程序转到图6中所示的子程序C。
如果按下的是CH(频道)键，则程序转到图7中所示的子程序D。
最后，如果同时按下两个键，OK键22及CH键16，则程序转到图8中所示的子程序E。
如图5中所示，当按下ARROW UP键18，或者ARROW DN键20时，信号器10将循环显示一系列不同的信息。该循环可以是自动的，或者可通过反复按压ARROW UP键18或者ARROW DN键20实现。
如图中所示，通常，首先按下ARROW UP键18将显示日期及时间。接下来显示的是气候及温度。随后将显示交通状况。接下来显示金融报告，之后是体育成绩报告，最后显示的是如图9中所示的对于特定频道或者时间段的TV节目表。当然，可视显示器14上也可显示其它信息，例如游戏。
如果按下OK键22，则程序转到图6中所示的子程序C。假定存在识别码，或者识别码已被编入信号器10中，现在传输这样的代码。该代码可以是电话号码或者信用卡号。
如图6中所示，按下OK键22将导致传送两个含有某些信息的信号，即可视显示器14上的广告及用户的识别码。在发送这两个信号之后，存在一个几秒钟到几分钟的超时期间，之后，程序在可视显示器14上恢复广告。
在用户已到达图5中所示子程序中的TV节目位置之后，如果按下CH键16，频道号将首先显现在显示器上。随后，如果用户希望改变频道号，他或她将按下ARROW UP键18或者ARROW DN键20到达频道X+N或者X-N。一旦到达期望的频道，该频道号将在显示器上显现几秒钟到几分钟的超时期间，随后将恢复广告显示。
或者，可对信号器10编程，以便如图9中所示，显示较短时间阶段内，例如半小时内，一些或者所有频道的节目。这里，信号器将滚动显示下一个半小时时段的节目。

根据本发明的教导，对信号器10编码，以便当信号器10不被使用，或者处于静止状态时，在显示屏14上显示广告。
要明白本发明的一个重要特征是在图5-8中的每个子程序的结尾处所表示的“暂停时序之后恢复屏幕”。
如果电池电力不足，可提供一个子程序，使信号器经过“电池电力不足时序”，“电池电力不足时序”弹出电力不足的信息，并保持3秒钟。
信号器10可被构造成、设定成及编程成具有或提供若干特征。例如，即使当信号器10处于静止状态，或者被关闭时，软件也可维持可视显示器上选定信息的显示。
信号器10通过IR(34、35)或者RF(36、37)与主设备通信，以便接收或者传送信息的主设备可以是电缆解码器盒、卫星解码器盒、电话公司解码器盒、电视机、计算机或者调制解调器。
无线RF发射电路36及接收电路37可被构造及设定成从远距离发射设备，例如寻呼网络、FM/SCA、蜂窝电话、诸如PCS、PDM、CDM之类的数字通信系统或者其它RF发射设备接收RF数据。
需要的话，信号器10可被构造及设定成与调制解调器，例如有线调制解调器或者无线调制解调器交换信息，并且操作调制解调器的智能信息可位于信号器10中。参见Escobosa和Darbee的美国专利No.5,537,463。
信号器10的存储器、RAM/ROM 40可包括一个缓冲存储器，它能够存储在来自信号器10中的实时时钟的命令下被显示的信息，信号器10可包括向主设备查询日期/时间信息的软件或者硬件。
可视显示器14可以是双稳态的，从而不需要刷新缓冲器，也不需要电源来维持可视显示器14上的图形。
从主设备接收的信息可以呈压缩形式，可以是绘图命令的形式，以致软件包括用于通过在可视显示器14上描绘图像来执行绘图命令的指令，和/或可以是用于在信号器10的可视显示器14上显示的电子程序指南子集。
检测电池电力不足条件的软件可以包括显示广告的指令，以用特定牌号的电池来代替电池。
如果需要，可以提供背照来照明可视显示器14。参见Park的美国专利No.5603078。
另外如果需要，信号器10可包括用来产生声音的电路48、50。
此外，遥控器10还可包括阅读机52及相关的电路，用来阅读信用卡上的磁条或者用来阅读或连接含有计算机芯片的智能卡。参见Henderson等的美国专利No.5603078，或者Bueno的美国专利No.5523689。
运动检测电路54可用于当用户使用信号器10时，把信号器10设置在给定状态。
信号器10的操作软件可被编程成循环ROM/RAM 40中的缓冲存储器，以在可视显示器14上显示多种类型的信息。
IR或光学接收电路34可被构造成从电视机屏幕接收光信号(VEIL技术)，或利用可见光从电视机屏幕接收其他形式的闪光(TIMEX技术)。
信号器10可包括用于在可视显示器14上或主显示器移动光标的指示装置电路。参见U.S.S，N.08/605,546：提供无线电指示器控制的系统。
可视显示器14可包括位于信号器10上的触敏显示屏或触敏垫/键。参见Goldstein的美国专利No.5410326。
这里公开的信号器10的一个重要特征是把广告保持在显示器10上及用户面前的能力。一个次要的特征是信号器10不仅能够显示广告，而且具有输入能力，例如键盘上的某些键，使用户通过使用如上说明的及图6中表示的某些键，能够借助无线、IR或RF通信链接响应显示的广告。

Claims (11)

1.一种信号器，包括可视显示器，用于从主设备接收包括有被显示的选定信息的数据的无线装置，及用于维持在所述信号器的所述可视显示器上显示所述选定信息的装置。
2.按照权利要求1所述的信号器，包括即使当所述信号器处于静止状态，或者被关闭时，在所述显示器上维持所述选定信息的装置。
3.按照权利要求1所述的信号器，包括向主设备发送信息的无线发射装置。
4.按照权利要求1所述的信号器，包括能够存储用于在来自所述信号器中的实时时钟的命令下被显示的信息的缓冲存储器。
5.按照权利要求1所述的信号器，包括用于产生声音的装置。
