Abstract

本发明一般涉及可带电插拔的接插件,尤其涉及带有集成总线和隔离开关的可带电插拔的接插件。
带电插拔电气设备的概念,是指相对于一基本单元插入或拔除设备而不必切断系统电源或重新启动该系统的能力。带电插拔技术起源于电话交换室,而且被完全地建立起来。但是,带电插拔对于个人计算机设备产业来说是比较新的技术。一种用来支持一服务器中带电插拔外围部件互连(PCI)适配器的最早系统,在总线桥控制器处隔离整个总线并能判定(resolve)总线电平。据此概念改进的后来的系统支持槽状间隔尺寸(slot-wise granularity)。用户能够插入或拔除单个的适配器,同时维持同一或同等PCI总线上的其他操作。
这些方案存在几个问题。PCI总线技术规范描述了某些电信令特性,这些特性必须得到满足,以便总线能适当地起作用。一种这样的参数与总线信号的迹线(trace)或导线长度相关联。重要的是,要使某些总线信号组的长度之间保持一致,以控制信号的到达时间。另一问题涉及插件(package)尺寸和插针数。最佳的插件尺寸和插针数是单插针插件,它只有迹线宽度那么大。遗憾的是迹线比任何允许的插件都窄得多,而且即使这样一种插件存在,也不便于组装。
一种用于可带电插拔PCI适配卡的解决方案将利用与PCI信号串联的场效应晶体管(FET)。FET通常可以用于10或20比特(bit)宽度的表面固定封装技术(packaging)。遗憾的是,使用这种封装技术会增大所需用来将FET接至PCI接插件和系统总线的导线宽度。尽管可用单比特的FET,不过由单比特的插件占的总空间在系统板上占据了过多的空间。此外,把FET插件加到极其靠近PCI接插件之处使得难以制造和再加工系统板。
一种可带电插拔的PCI适配槽(slot)可把电源和适配器隔离开,并且把扩展槽信号和系统总线隔离开。带有栅极驱动控制器的MOSFET用来隔离电源,而且高速FET开关隔离这些信号。为了进行隔离,通过FET开关传递这些信号。通过使插件尺寸、插针数和所需用于连接的迹线长度最佳,使得所需用来将总线接至总线开关然后接至适配卡的导线最少。把FET开关嵌入扩展适配器接插件中,它们与系统PCB和边缘插座(edge)上的接插件插针相串联,该边缘插座将网络接至适配卡上的接头(finger)。
图1是根据本发明构成的PCI适配卡、PCI接插件和系统板的示意图。
图2是装入系统板之前图1中PCI接插件一下端的侧视剖面图。
参见图1,图中表示一PCI适配卡12的可带电插拔外围器件互连(PCI)接插件11。如图2所示,PCI接插件11包括一模制的外部接插件主体13,该主体13包括一内腔15(图2)和一前边17。一加大的中央定位部件19与前边17成整体形成,并且使其从前边17向前伸出,这有助于把PCI接插件11适当定位于一系统的印刷电路板(PCB)18上的PCI扩展槽(图中未表示)中。
再次参见图2,多个金属信号插针21从接插件主体13的后端穿过内腔15。信号插针21对称地排列于腔1 5中,从前边17向前伸出以与系统板18相连。每个插针21包括一前部21a和一后部21b,它们由一间隙22分开。间隙22在每个插针21的距离中是均匀的。一高速场效应晶体管(FET)开关23(图中只示出一个)与每个信号插针21在其间隙22处相串联。可以在半导体工艺条件下把FET开关23装入信号插针21中。每个FET开关23有一对引脚25(源极和漏极)它们与信号插针部分21a、21b相连。每个FET开关23还有一控制栅27,是用来控制通过FET开关23信号流的电子栅极。该控制栅极27共同接至一分开的控制接插件插针29,其与信号插针21相同。当插入PCI适配卡12时,插针29接至系统板18中的电压源。响应于控制接插件插针29安全地使该电路与PCI卡12相接通,控制栅极27关闭。当拔下PCI适配卡12时,控制栅极27关断FET开关23。优选的是,把信号插针21、控制接插件插针29和FET开关23模压在接插件主体13中。就与信号插针21串联安装的FET开关23来说,包括通过每个FET开关23的路径在内的每个信号插针21的长度相同。
带有一对引脚32和一栅极驱动控制器33的MOSFET31被装于插针21之一的间隙22中,该插针21用来向PCI卡12供电。正当FET开关23控制数据信号时,MOSFET31可被用来隔离和控制通过PCI接插件11的电量。如同控制栅极27那样,栅极驱动控制器33接至控制接插件插针29,以便同时启动。每个MOSFET31还接入设置于电源插针21中的间隙22中。
操作时,可以将PCI卡12带电插入PCI接插件11中,而不必切断系统电源或重新启动系统。在安装PCI卡12之前,关闭控制栅极27和栅极驱动控制器33,以使FET开关23和MOSFET31关断而使信号流或电流无法通过PCI接插件11。当PCI接插件11的插针21、29接触PCI卡12上的引脚时,栅极27和33开通,并允许信号和电流分别流过FET开关23和MOSFET31而不会损坏器件或系统。类似地,当拔下PCI卡12时,控制栅极27和33关闭以分别关断FET开关23和MOSFET31,以保护该系统。
本发明有几个优点。通过把FET开关放入接插件中,本方案解决了以前设计中遇到的导线长度问题,同时也节约了主系统单元上的系统板空间。使用集成FET插件比分散器件便宜,并且减少了与制造和再加工系统板相关的困难。
尽管仅以其某些形式表示或描述了本发明,不过对于本领域普通技术人员来说,很显然,本发明并不限于这些,在不脱离本发明范围的情况下,可以有各种变换。

Claims (9)

1.一种用于PCI适配卡的系统板上的可带电插拔的PCI接插件,包括:
一模制的外接插件主体,它有一内腔和一前边;
一定位部件,它与接插件主体的前边成整体形成,并从该前边向前伸出;
多个信号插针,它们穿过内腔,从接插件主体的前边向前伸出,适于连接系统板和PCI卡;和
一高速FET开关,它与每个信号插针相串联,且被模压到接插件主体内,以使每个信号插针的长度相同。
2.如权利要求1的PCI接插件,其中通过一分开的电源插针向PCI接插件供电;而且,其中PCI接插件还包括:
一MOSFET开关,它与电源插针相串联,并且位于接插件主体内部。
3.如权利要求1的PCI接插件,其中每个信号插针都有一后部和一前部,该后部和前部被一间隙分开;
每个FET开关被置于该间隙中,并且有一源极引脚和一漏极引脚,该源极引脚接至上述后部和前部之一,该漏极引脚接至上述后部和前部中的另一个。
4.如权利要求3的PCI接插件,其中所有的间隙大小相同。
5.如权利要求1的PCI接插件,还包括:
一栅极控制器插针,它从接插件主体的前边伸出,适于连接系统板以提供一控制电压;而且,其中

6.一种计算机,包括:
一系统板;
一PCI适配卡;
