本发明主要涉及通过电视设施为用户提供双向交互式娱乐系统,更具体地说,涉及产生可编程背景音频或视频信号,以便在相应的电视接收机上作为背景显示的终端方法和装置。
双向交互式电缆电视系统被用来通过电缆设施向众多的用户传送娱乐节目,信息和数据已经是公知的。数据可以通过一分离的数据频道,带外的或者视频信号内的所谓“带内”数据频道。例如,在垂直消隐时间内,传送或输送给一特定的用户。在下游方向,编址控制数据可以代表授权给一个特定终端的服务或者代表给该终端的控制指令。在上游方向即从终端向服务提供者或系统管理器的方向,控制数据可以代表用户在响应轮询请求或在用户选择时间所进行的选择。
终端经常被制成具有唯一的识别编码,为了保密的目的,这些编码可以不让用户知道。即便如此,对于系统管理器来说,该唯一的识别编码是必要的,以便为系统中的终端编址。当终端请求视频和音频服务时,地址被用于具体地指示被请求服务的目标,以便可以把与传送所需服务相关的信息传送给发出请求的终端。
在电视文字广播服务的例子中,至少是文字字符的画面被传送到终端,并且在相应的电视接收机上显示出来。根据(Campbell    etal.)美国专利4,536,791,一个可编址电缆电视终端包括有一个文字/图形发生器。包含控制和文字信号的数据信号被插入在发送到终端的电视信号的扫描期间。此外,以视频线路形式的全频道电视文字广播数据被发送到专用于文字频道的终端上。从被传送的电视信号中恢复的数据可以叠加在电视频信号产生的图象上。例如,从扫描期间中恢复的一个频道号码,能够在前景中出现,一个调谐到的节目出现在显示的背景中。
众所周知,电视接收机可以有选择地调谐一个伴随着视频节目的无线广播音频信号。以这种方式,可以为那些伴音既不是立体声又不是所选语言的电视节目提供立体声伴音或者是一种外语伴音。
然而,在这一技术领域存在着一种在视频节目或伴音节目或两者之上有选择地叠加文字为附加文字画面的需求。例如在收费电视节目服务的提供中,文字指示可选择地和可编程地被显示在前景中,并且收费节目的预看出现在具有或者没有伴音的背景中。在提供饭店客房服务和做用餐饮食选择广告的电视文字广播的画面中,当它们被显示时,来自配餐音乐伴音频道的配餐音乐可以被调谐和在背景中播放,并且伴随着客房服务的电视文字广播画面。

按照本发明使用在电视终端中的装置包括一个在处理器控制下的第一开关,用于转换一个可编程所选频道,该频道可以包括有用于显示的音频或视频信号或者两者都存在。一个在处理器控制下的第二开关转换电视文字广播发生器的一个可编程所选输出。第一和第二开关的输出经一加法电路被用于显示。

图1是按照本发明在饭店或医院环境系统中提供的一种包括有双向交互式终端的交互式娱乐系统的方框原理图;

另一方面,图1所示系统是本发明在饭店或医院娱乐系统中应用的范例。因此,传输线路6可以只包含一个同轴或光纤电缆连接在娱乐控制中心与N个终端,例如设置在上述设施房间内的终端7,8或9之间。

按照图1,系统管理器12还控制一个可编址发送器/接收器10,用于把被唯一编址的编址通信发送给终端7,8或9和以随机的次数方式接收通信或响应在终端的轮询请求。按照图1,可编址发送器可以把已编址信息发送到一个独立的数据载波上,如在108MHz,并且接收来自在另一个具有25MHz的独立数据信道上的终端以所谓向上游的方向发送的信息。例如,向上游的通信可以包括按照由用户通过终端键盘输入的一个服务请求用名字或数字的形式把电视字幕传送给终端,以便存贮在终端存贮器中。在一个可替换的实施例中,所有向下游的通信可以在带内或者在一个特定的电视频道传输中发送,例如,在被发送的视频信号的水平或垂直间隔之内。因此,系统管理器12把控制数据输入给经调制器5或者11(未示出)传送的视频信号,在带内完成信号的传输。由于增加了数据承载容量,每一传送方向最好是使用独立的数据载波。对向上游方向的传送,可以使用电话线路或扩展频谱传送,作为一种对独立的数据频道的替代。
除了与交换式终端7,8或9进行特定的编址数据通信以外,系统管理器还可以对所有交互式终端进行全局选址通信,这种通信可以要求也可以不要求一个终端对其进行响应。例如这种全局通信可以选择一个代表在特定饭店系统中所有终端的一个全局地址,或者选择代表在该系统内具有共同兴趣的一组终端的一个组地址。
本发明所解决的问题是使经本发明的交互式终端的电视文字广播屏幕的显示来的便利,一个终端的用户通过按动开关接通电源和打开与他相关的电视接收机使其终端工作。该用户在多个可能的选择服务中挑选一项,如客房服务,每次付费观看,结帐,饭店信息的电话消息检索或者室内购物,然后启动电视文字广播服务。这些可供选择的项目仅仅是本发明可以便利提供的可能供选择的项目的范例。这里使用的电视文字广播屏幕(teletext    screen)一词是涉及交互式提供文字和图形在电视信号接收机上显示的技术述语。
为了说明电视文字广播服务提供背景伴音的原理,例如,用户可以要求用屏幕显示描述客房服务。存贮在终端7,8或9的存贮器中的样板和其他数据典型地由一个微处理器来处理,并且产生指令以便显示与客房服务相关的几幕画面中的第一幕。同时,对于频率或其他存贮用于背景伴音信道的调谐数据(turning    data),样板的数据被考虑。进而,考虑产生一个标记以表示背景伴音的实现。在微处理器的控制下,已编程的伴音信道被调谐并且伴随着显示的屏幕。

为了说明提供背景图象的原理,例如,用户可以要求显示一个只有用户付费才能特许观看的频道。与上述每次付费观看服务关联的屏幕显示与用户的需求相关联。一个屏幕样板从存贮器中检索用于显示,并可以看到“你现在收看的是免费试映,若购买,按买(buy)键”。相关的样板是将要作为电视文字广播屏幕背景显示的收费频道。取决于背景伴音是否能实现,用户还将能够听到节目的伴音。

送到电视的输出可以是EIA单独调谐,单独屏幕生成,或者是屏幕生成和EIA调谐的一种混合。为了观看EIA视频信号,存贮在终端存贮器中的作为一个相应样板的屏幕标志必须被设置为“在屏幕上(on    screen)”。
背景伴音/象可以按照经电缆电视设备提供的频道范围内的任何EIA频道进行组合。伴音可以被单独地静噪。对于特定的一幕如果没有音量存在,即静噪,则终端键盘的音量上升和音量下降键对音量不起作用。然而,可以显示音量彩条。如果没有EIA频道被安排,则伴音被自动静噪。此外,如果屏幕标志为在屏幕上,则在缺少相就屏幕的调谐频率数据时,最终调谐的EIA频道将作为背景图象出现。
对于每次付费观看收费频道业务的操作,存在两个特定的EIA频道值。例如,因为存在不多数量的单独可配置的收费频道和只有一套与购买收费频道相关联的屏幕,所以对背景频道的特定处理的需要增加了。为了构成作为背景的视频信道为特定收费频道使用的交替视频频道,可以预先确定一个频道作为EIA频道。对于作为背景的收费频道本身,可以使用另一个收费频道。如果使用这些值而又不是在一个收费频道上,则最初被调谐的EIA频道将作为背景图象出现,并且伴音被静噪。如上表明的,加扰是任意选择的,并且仅对第二个收费频道背景加扰。
根据系统管理器的位置,电视文字广播屏幕的详细的设计和终端存贮器详细的屏幕优先次序,在与本发明同时申请,申请序号为No._的美国专利申请中作了描述,该专利申请在这里一并作为参考。然而,只要描述了屏幕样板的设计和按照屏幕编号把屏幕样板存贮在系统管理器存贮器中就够了。利用名称或相应屏幕区分的一个样板文件(file)决定着终端将采取什么行动来响应该终端键盘上键的动作。更确切地说,屏幕存贮器中相应的屏幕是一个终端应该调谐以获得背景伴音/图象的EIA频道频率。另一个存贮器标志指示背景伴音是否能够产生。在一个标志表中,进一步包含了关于“在屏幕上”状态被标识以指示由调谐数据表示频道的信息,或者如上所述的最终调谐的EIA频道作为背景频道出现的信息。

被描述的屏幕是屏幕编号500,它是描述客房服务的第一幕画面。存贮器中的相应屏幕500将作为一个标志,指示背景伴音能够产生。同时,例如配餐音乐经EIA频道33由系统管理器提供给终端。频道33还与存贮器中的屏幕500相关联。因此,当终端调谐到频道33的EIA频率时,伴随屏幕500的配餐音乐就会产生。当饭店客人做出他们的选择时,如果一系列显示客房服务的屏幕的画面顺序地为500,527,245和550,则频道33背景伴音将作为背景音乐持续播放。
用户可以使用他们的手持遥控器或终端键盘,通过操作适当的音量键来调整音量。同时,根据屏幕的键盘样板,其他键依据它们在屏幕上为buy或OK键的说明,可以具有不同的功能。
用户现在可以决定启动每次观看付费的付费频道业务。参考图4(b),最初的一幕指示屏幕编号为600。如果背景伴音能产生,这一幕将还有一个相应的背景EIA频道和背景节目伴音。试映的屏幕可以被定时,以便在预定的时间过后,将拒绝接受用户使节目出现在背景中。为一个预定时间期间可以与电视文字广播屏幕相关联,这个时间期间比试映时间稍长或稍短。例如,若稍长,则在试映完毕,屏幕将催促观看者按压buy键。若稍短,则在试映期间,可以显示一串屏幕画面,这串屏幕画面提供比只显示一幕画面更详细的指示。
这样,这里已经描述了使用在一种电缆电视终端中的装置,该装置用于规定一个背景音频/图象频道,终端应该调谐到这个频道,以便获得文字屏幕信息的背景音频/图象或者两者都能获得。以这种方式,例如,一个用户可以观看在一套文字指示背景中的一部电影,该套文字指示观看者如何付费观看这部电影。交替地,可以提供给观看者适当的背景音乐,以配合他从客房内服务菜单中挑选出正餐可供选择的食品。本发明所含原理的其他应用对于本领域的技术人员应该是显而易见的。

Claims (7)

1、在一种电视终端中使用的装置,用于可选择地提供一种背景视频或音频信号或是两者,以伴随在前景中的文字信息屏幕的显示,该装置包括:
调谐装置,用于调谐到一个预定的背景频道;
电视文字广播产生装置,用于产生前景显示信息;
与调谐装置和电视文字广播产生装置耦合连接的开关装置耦合连接的开关装置,用于选择地转换调谐装置的输出,作为电视文字广播产生装置的前景输出的一个背景显示;和
控制装置,响应用于显示一特定屏幕的文字信息的选择,用于控制开关装置和调谐装置。
2、根据权利要求1的装置进一步包括一个读/写存贮器,用于暂时存贮与特定文字信息屏幕相关的数据,该数据指示背景伴音是否能产生。
3、根据权利要求1的装置进一步包括一个读/写存贮器,用于暂时存贮与特定文字信息屏幕相关的数据,该数据指示调谐装置调谐到的预定频道。
4、根据权利要求3的装置进一步包括一个读/写存贮器,用于暂时存贮与特定文字信息屏幕相关的数据,该数据确定在背景中显示预定的频道还是终端调谐到的最后频道。
5、在一种电视终端中使用的装置,用于可选择地提供一种背景视频或音频信号或是两者,以伴随在前景中的文字信息屏幕的显示,该装置包括:
调谐装置,用于调谐到一个预定的背景频道;
第一开关装置,用于选择地转换调谐装置的输出;
电视文字广播生产装置,用于产生前景显示的文字信息;
第二开关装置,用于可选择地转换电视文字广播生产装置的输出;
求和装置,用一对第一和第二开关装置的输出求和;
控制装置,响应用于显示一特定屏幕的文字信息的选择,用于控制第一和第二开关装置和调谐装置,和
存贮装置,用于暂时存贮与特定文字信息屏幕相关的数据,该数据指示背景伴音是否要产生和调谐装置调谐到的预定频道。
6、在一种电视终端中使用的方法,用于选择地提供一种背景视频或音频或是两者,以伴随文字信息屏幕的显示,该方法包括下列步骤;
存贮一幕文字信息和一个预定背景频道的相关数据;
响应用户的选择,检索在前景中显示的文字信息;
调谐到作为背景的预定背景频道;和
选择地转换背景频道,以提供背景图象,背景伴音或两者。
7、在终端用于用背景伴音伴随一特定电视文字广播服务的方法,电视文字广播服务包括多个相应的屏幕,该方法包括下列步骤:
把一预定背景音频信道与多个和特定电视文字广播服务相关的屏幕中的每一幕相联系;和
在与特定电视文字广播服务相关的任何屏幕画面的显示期间,调谐到背景音频频道。
