Abstract

背景技术
诸如数字多功能盘(DVD)播放机、组合个人计算机和电视设备(PC/TV系统)、卫星接收机和因特网兼容设备(例如,NETPC)之类的消费者电子设备都包含很多复杂的用户交互任务。这些任务包括初始设备设置、操作功能选择、可编程用户爱好选择、确定对程序的有条件存取和用户权利。其他任务包括,例如,操作应用程序、选择音频/视频特性、选择通信功能和从手册获得帮助或用户指令。这些需要所带来的一个问题是需要设计一个用于这些设备的用户接口,这些设备支持这些复杂的用户交互任务,同时提供一个适用于公众的简单命令接口。
通过根据本发明的系统解决了该问题及其派生问题。
发明内容

发明者已经认识到一个分层有序菜单结构有助于提供一个用于包括例如DVD播放机之类的消费者电子设备装置的用户交互操作的简单图形用户接口。一个分层有序菜单结构也有助于提供一个在个人计算机(PC)或其他设备运行应用程序的用户操作所使用的简单接口。
发明者进一步认识到通过在用户操作一个设备或应用程序期间连续显示一个分层菜单结构可以带来显著的优点。通过保持菜单结构可视性和设备或程序操作期间的屏幕可以提高用户通过多个菜单和操作任务导航的能力。这样的菜单系统使用户认识到他处于复杂的多级菜单结构中的何处并在该结构内能很容易地前进和返回。自动滚动分层菜单结构以便保持一个当前激活的菜单屏幕。另外,不但可以识别菜单入口和出口点而且可以识别在前选择的菜单数据项(例如,通过高亮显示),以便使用户很容易地看到菜单导航路径和他已完成的操作序列。也可以识别由一个或多个插入菜单数据项分开的菜单入口和出口点。

图1表示一个根据本发明的数字多功能盘(DVD)系统,该系统提供一组用户交互、分层、控制和信息显示形式的屏幕用户显示。该DVD系统不但能够播放DVD盘而且也能够播放音频CD盘。译码器100响应用户命令经接口15从盘存储介质10读取数据和将数据经接口15写入盘存储介质10。用户通过远程控制单元70经远程接口65输入命令并由控制器60进行处理。译码器100也译码用于在音频单元55和视频单元50重放的MPEG兼容音频和视频数据。根据下文称为“MPEG标准”的图象编码标准,编码MPEG(运动图象专家组)兼容音频和视频数据。该MPEG标准由一个系统编码部分(ISO/IEC13818-1,1994年6月10日)和视频编码部分(ISO/IEC13818-2,1995年1月20日)构成,下文分别称为“MPEG系统标准”和“MPEG视频标准”。
出现在单元50的交互、分层、控制和信息显示能够进行DVD译码器100的用户操作的功能显示和设备控制参数(包括操作参数)输入。分层的各个菜单包含支持译码器100功能的控制参数入口和显示,这些功能例如包括设备设置、设备操作和调节、用户爱好选择、有条件访问和用户权限管理、音频/视频特性选择、通信功能启动、和用户帮助或指令。其他菜单用于指导用户通过一个预定的操作序列,例如,显示亮度、对比度等的调节。
尽管在操作一个消费者电子设备的系统范围内描述了所公开的用户接口系统,但这只是示意性的。本发明的原则可以应用于操作其他的、非消费者电子装置和操作例如个人计算机(PC)或其他设备上的应用程序的用户接口系统。此外,本发明原则可以用于非-MPEG兼容系统的用户接口,其中非-MPEG兼容系统处理诸如电话信息、计算机程序、因特网数据或其他通信之类的数据。
考虑图1的(DVD)系统的读取模式操作,通过接口单元15解调、去交错、Reed-Solomon纠错和去倒频表示来自存储介质10的数据的程序,将得到的译码数据流提供给去多路复用器20。用户通过选择在单元50显示的一组分层菜单上表示的任选项来操作DVD译码器100。使用由远程控制单元70经远程接口65输入的命令选择任选项。以这种方式,用户选择一个查看程序,并启动与DVD系统的设置、操作和调节有关的功能。由使用双-向数据和控制信号总线C控制译码器100的部件的操作的控制器60处理所输入的命令。控制器60通过使用控制总线C设置这些部件内的控制寄存器值来控制译码器100内的各个部件功能。
由接口15输出的分包译码数据流包含表示例如一个选择的电影的视频和音频数据,还包括子-图象数据。从存储介质10得到的子-图象数据包含与存储在存储介质的程序有关的图象部分,例如显示命令、字幕、内容菜单、描述文字、可选择的菜单选项或其他数据项。由去多路复用器20使用在其相应的数据包标题包含的数据包标识符(PID)值从接口15的译码数据流识别包含视频、音频和子图象数据的数据包。
去多路复用器20将从接口15的数据流引入的数据包的PID与控制器60预先加载到单元20的控制寄存器的PID值匹配。去多路复用器20将视频、音频和子图象数据包分别提供给MPEG视频译码器25、音频处理器35和子图象处理器30。译码器25译码和解压缩来自单元20的MPEG兼容分包视频数据,并将表示像素数据的解压缩程序通过多路复用器40提供给NTSC编码器45。类似地,音频处理器35译码来自单元20的分包音频数据并将译码和放大的音频数据与相关的解压缩视频数据同步地提供给用于音频重放的设备55。
处理器30译码和解压缩从单元20接收的子图象数据以便向屏幕显示(OSD)和图形发生器37提供解压缩像素映射数据。单元37创建出现在单元50的一组交互、分层、控制和信息菜单显示。这些菜单显示包括,例如,图2-11所示的显示,该显示能够进行功能选择和用户操作DVD译码器100的设备操作参数的输入。通过OSD发生器37在控制器60的控制下产生重叠像素映射数据形式的分层菜单显示。控制器60采用支持单元50菜单显示更新的数据库。该数据库将分层结构中的特定菜单与当前显示在单元50的菜单中的可选择菜单选项图标链接在一起。因此,控制器60能够响应当前菜单选项图标的用户选择来确定并产生一个显示在单元50的下一层菜单。
控制器60执行构成为DVD译码器100操作定制的一个操作系统的预编程指令。在指令执行中,控制器60与单元37一起,在DVD设备100的用户交互操作期间产生一个连续显示在单元50的自动滚动菜单的分层序列。控制器60与单元37一起不但沿水平方向而且沿垂直方向自动滚动连续分层菜单结构的显示部分,以便保持单元50屏幕上的菜单结构的当前激活部分。随着用户通过该菜单,当前激活和最近选择的菜单水平滚动到单元50显示窗口的左侧,在该窗口在前菜单显示在当前菜单的右侧。
当激活诸如例如用户启动播放一个电影之类的确定功能时,控制器60移开单元50显示的菜单结构。然而,当完成所选择的功能,例如,在电影结尾时,控制器60与单元37一起再次产生一个显示在单元50的菜单并将显示用户接口返回所拥有的分层菜单结构。另外,甚至当不显示菜单结构时,例如,在电影播放期间,操作系统的控制器60连续运行在该分层菜单结构内并保留最后选择的菜单选项的记录。因此,当完成该菜单结构外部的一个功能,例如电影播放的结尾时,控制器60能够再建立最后选择的菜单并保留菜单结构内的位置。作为一种替换,当完成一个任务时,另一实施例的控制器60可以使译码器100操作返回到该结构内的不同的菜单。
在DVD系统的用户交互操作期间通过保持菜单结构可视性和DVD译码器100的屏幕可以提高用户通过多个菜单及操作任务导航的能力。除了例如电影播放期间需要全屏显示的间隔之外,菜单结构连续可视。类似地,在操作应用程序期间(例如,字处理程序),除了例如在应用程序操作期间需要全屏显示的间隔之外,通过保持这样的连续可视菜单可得到类似的优点。这一特点使用户知道他处于复杂的多级菜单结构中的何处并能在该结构很容易地前进和后退。译码器100自动滚动分级菜单结构以保持一个当前激活的菜单屏幕。
另外,不但可以识别菜单入口和出口点而且可以识别在前选择的菜单数据项(例如,通过虚线或虚线特征或通过高亮、着色、以及包括三维阴影的阴影、或明暗),以便使用户很容易地看到菜单导航路径和他已完成的操作序列。用户可以以顺序的方式从一个菜单到一个相邻的菜单、即如后面参照图2-11所述的前一个或下一个菜单导航通过菜单结构。一般不允许从当前菜单到另一个不相邻菜单的随机导航跳转。然而,在确定条件下允许这样的跳转,例如,诸如电源中断或错误条件或快速定向或恢复目的之类情况。在这些情况下,当经远程单元70启动特定命令时允许用户启动返回主菜单或基础菜单。
控制器60响应菜单项选择和导航命令,例如方向箭头或在菜单结构前进或回转的光标命令,通过确定所显示的菜单结构部分滚动菜单结构。控制器60从分层(树结构)显示菜单的预定和预存设置选择用于显示的菜单结构部分。也向用户作出这样的规定,即,使用诸如远程单元70或例如键盘(未示出)之类的数据输入设备通过用户功能不但可以增加新菜单而且可以将菜单项增加到菜单结构。在控制器60的指示下OSD发生器37由表示所选择的菜单结构的像素数据更新相应的OSD像素映像重叠数据。
单元37将处理器的子图象像素映像数据与表示选择用于显示菜单结构的OSD单元37的重叠像素映像数据线性组合。将组合的像素映像数据提供给多路复用器40。控制器60将单元37的组合像素映像菜单数据或者译码器25的解压缩程序描述像素数据,引导到NTSC编码器45的像素映射存储器缓冲器。
在另一种模式,将单元37的组合像素映像菜单数据和解压缩程序数据经多路复用器40都引导到编码器45。在该模式,在控制器60的指示下在单元45的像素映射存储器缓冲器组合该数据以形成合成显示。合成显示不但包含视频、例如电影而且包含组合像素映像数据的重叠以允许例如当播放一个电影时调整显示参数。
在DVD系统的正常操作中,在没有单元25的视频数据(例如,电影数据)的情况下,将单元37的组合像素映像菜单数据显示在单元50。为此目的,在单元60的控制下,多路复用器将单元37的组合像素映像菜单数据引导到用于存储的NTSC编码器45的像素映射存储器缓冲器。
编码器45将存储在其存储器缓冲器的组合像素映射菜单数据转换到常规亮度和色度分量。编码器45以常规方式处理亮度和色度分量以及控制器60提供的定时数据,以形成在NTSC兼容图象重放设备50、例如电视机或视频监视器显示的NTSC信号。在另一实施例,编码器45通过RGB兼容重放设备或高清晰度电视提供用于显示的RGB输出。编码器45可以是一个常规的用于信号转换和NTSC生成的商用集成电路。
图2-11表示根据本发明的、由单元37与控制器60一起产生并由显示单元50提供给用户的示范用户接口菜单(图1)。显示菜单示出由接口提供的可用性、简单性和适航性优点。
图2示出一个表示基础菜单和通过三层DVD操作菜单的导航路径的屏幕用户接口显示。具体地讲,图2识别用户已经过的从基础菜单项205经过入口项215和第二菜单项210以及菜单项220-235到第三和当前激活菜单的项240的导航路径。在该实例,基础菜单包括任选项200,205,245,250,255,260,和265。通过突起高亮用户识别通过项200-240的导航路径并且该导航路径通过下面的远程单元70上的定向或光标命令的用户入口(图1)。菜单入口点由项215和220表示(图2)。菜单出口点由从前面菜单(例如,从项210)到下一个菜单(例如,项220)的入口点的高亮导航路径表示。入口和出口点以及各个菜单的任何插入项由突起高亮识别。这使得用户很容易地看到菜单导航路径和他已完成的操作序列。在另一个实施例,可以识别(例如,通过高亮)一个特定菜单的入口和出口点以及可以使插入项不被高亮从而不被识别。
图3表示一个允许用户在菜单结构内输入操作参数(口令)的分层菜单显示。在该实例,用户经菜单项300-330已导航到菜单项335。菜单项335,对话框使用户更新译码器100的操作参数,在这种情况下,有条件地访问用户之一的口令形式的数据。
图4表示根据本发明的在分层菜单结构内显示操作参数(副标题激活状态)的屏幕用户接口显示。在该实例,高亮的菜单项和导航路径表示用户经项400-410已航行到菜单项415。菜单项415向用户指示副标题激活状态,并且在该示范实施例菜单项415表示所选择电影的副标题显示在单元50。
图5表示根据本发明的描述用于保留分层菜单结构内的当前选择菜单项的可视性的自动滚动操作的屏幕用户接口显示。在该实例,用户经高亮项530、510、505、540、545和555已从菜单级1通过菜单结构到当前激活的菜单级4。与单元37(图1)一起起作用的控制器60已将该菜单结构的显示部分水平自动滚动到使对话框555(菜单级4)位于显示屏右侧以及使前一个菜单(菜单级3)位于屏幕区500内。结果是,在前选择的菜单(级1和2)已被从右到左滚动并移出用户视线,剩下显示屏幕图象500。显示菜单结构部分包括允许用户选择一个要求的副标题语言的对话框555(菜单级4)。在使用期间用户能够很容易地识别和返回其高亮导航路径并且在了解到菜单自动滚动以保持下一个可视菜单选择和屏幕的情况下向前通过该菜单结构。

图9表示根据本发明的屏幕用户接口显示,该屏幕用户接口显示用于经分层菜单结构内的操作参数入口排序用户对电视图象特性的调整。在该实例,用户经项900-915航行高亮菜单路径。菜单结构内的菜单项的排序用于指导用户通过预定的显示特性调整功能序列。例如,用户可以以在菜单结构内航行的顺序被提示或要求执行对比度910、亮度915、色度925、清晰度930和自动色彩选择950的顺序调整。用户使用诸如远程单元70(图1)或键盘之类的光标输入操作设备通过图标选择或图标移动直接调整一个参数。例如,通过移动项915的亮度设定带调整亮度。
图10表示根据本发明的屏幕用户接口显示,该屏幕用户接口显示允许用户经分层菜单结构内的操作参数入口调整音频特性。在该实例,用户航行通过高亮菜单项1000-1030到达用于调整中央音频均衡器滤波特性的对话框1035。
图11表示根据本发明的屏幕用户接口显示,该屏幕用户接口显示允许用户经分层菜单结构内的操作参数入口调整成人内容级别限定。在该实例,用户航行通过高亮菜单项1100-1145到达用于调整为一个选择的家庭成员(这里为查尔斯)设定的级别限定的对话框1150。使用远程单元70(图1)通过对话框1150内的图标的移动调整该限定。
可以将本发明的原则应用到用于操作其他,非-消费电子装置的用户接口系统,只要该装置加入提供给用户的视频显示信息。这样的装置包括,例如,视频处理设备、计算机及其外围设备、服务器、通信装置和互连网服务器和设备。另外,可以将本发明的原则应用到在个人计算机(PC)或其他设备运行的操作系统和应用程序所使用的用户接口。这些应用程序可以包括,例如,字处理、数据库、和文件管理程序。此外,在产生一个根据本发明的原则的用户接口时可以对所述方法和装置作出很多变化。所产生的这些装置和方法不限于本文所述的原理。
Claims (12)
1.一种设备(100),包括一个屏幕用户显示接口,所述设备包括:
显示产生装置(37,60),用于产生多个分层排序菜单;更新装置(37,45,50,60),用于响应用户菜单项选择更新所述屏幕显示;其中
在包括经所述菜单启动并行应用程序的窗口的合并显示中表示所述菜单,所述菜单包括当前菜单和一个在前父菜单,所述菜单表示一个从所述父菜单到所述当前菜单的显示导航路径,其中
所述菜单内的菜单选择项向用户提供
a)所述设备的控制信息的显示,和
b)控制参数数据输入能力中的至少一个。
2.如权利要求1所述的设备,其中
所述显示产生装置在包括
a)用户交互操作所述设备期间,
b)用户交互操作一个应用程序期间,
c)除应用程序操作时间间隔外用户操作所述设备的期间中的至少一个的时间间隔内提供一个所述选择路径的连续可视显示。
3.如权利要求1所述的设备,还包括
一个在菜单项之间保持链接用于响应用户选择的菜单项更新所述屏幕显示的数据库。
4.如权利要求3所述的设备,包括
用于响应用户输入的控制参数数据更新所述数据库的装置。
5.如权利要求3所述的设备,包括
用于定制所述菜单的装置,包括用于响应用户输入的控制参数数据更新所述数据库的装置。
6.如权利要求1所述的设备,包括
用于自动滚动所述菜单以保留用户可视的所述当前菜单的装置,响应用户菜单项选择进行所述滚动。
7.如权利要求1所述的设备,其中由a)高亮,b)着色c)阴影d)三维阴影,e)断面线,f)虚线和g)虚线特征中的至少一个识别所述选择路径。
8.如权利要求1所述的设备,其中
所述菜单包括一个所述应用程序的用户接口。
9.如权利要求1所述的设备,其中
所述控制参数数据输入能力包括输入a)一个口令和b)用户简档数据中的一个或多个的能力。
10.如权利要求1所述的设备,其中
所述菜单包括一组信息和控制显示。
11.一种用于产生屏幕用户接口显示的方法,包括:
产生用于在包括经所述菜单启动并行应用程序的窗口的合并显示中表示的多个分层顺序菜单,所述菜单包括当前菜单和一个在前父菜单,所述菜单显示从所述父菜单到所述当前菜单的显示导航路径,其中
所述父菜单内的一个菜单选择项向用户提供
a)所述设备的控制信息显示,
b)控制参数数据输入能力中的至少一个;和
响应用户菜单项选择更新所述屏幕显示。
12.一种设备(100),包括屏幕显示用户接口,包括:
显示产生装置(37,60),用于产生多层排序菜单显示;
更新装置(37,45,50,60),用于响应用户菜单项选择更新所述屏幕显示用户接口;其中所述菜单包括:
当前菜单和在前父菜单,所述菜单表示一个从所述父菜单到所述当前菜单的显示导航路径,其中
所述显示产生装置在包括
a)用户交互操作所述设备期间,
b)用户交互操作一个应用程序期间,
c)除应用程序操作时间间隔外用户操作所述设备的期间中的至少一个的时间间隔内提供一个所述导航路径的连续可视显示。
