Abstract
Fibers and nonwoven materials comprising polymeric blends and polymeric mixtures that incorporate a blend of a first metallocene polypropylene and a second polypropylene are described. The first and second polypropylenes have a predetermined relationship for the melt temperature and the melt flow rate of the individual polypropylenes. Also described are fibers (including bicomponent fibers) and nonwoven materials made from the fibers where the fibers are extruded using the polymeric blends, and/or the polymeric mixtures.
Claims (13)
1. A polymeric blend comprising:
(a) a first polypropylene, preferably a metallocene polypropylene, having an average melt temperature T M1, preferably between 110° C and 135 °C, and a melt flow rate MFR1, preferably between 5 g/10 minutes and 25 g/10; and (b) a second polypropylene having an average melt temperature TM2, preferably between 135 °C and 165 °C, and a melt flow rate MFR2, preferably between 25 g/10 minutes and 50 g/10 minutes;
wherein said polymeric blend has an average melt temperature T Mb of from 125 °C
and 160 °C, a melt flow rate MFR b of from 10 g/10 minutes and 40 g/10 minutes characterized in that:
TM1 < TMb < TM2,, MFR1< MFR b < MFR2, and MFR2/MFR1 >= 2Ø
(a) a first polypropylene, preferably a metallocene polypropylene, having an average melt temperature T M1, preferably between 110° C and 135 °C, and a melt flow rate MFR1, preferably between 5 g/10 minutes and 25 g/10; and (b) a second polypropylene having an average melt temperature TM2, preferably between 135 °C and 165 °C, and a melt flow rate MFR2, preferably between 25 g/10 minutes and 50 g/10 minutes;
wherein said polymeric blend has an average melt temperature T Mb of from 125 °C
and 160 °C, a melt flow rate MFR b of from 10 g/10 minutes and 40 g/10 minutes characterized in that:
TM1 < TMb < TM2,, MFR1< MFR b < MFR2, and MFR2/MFR1 >= 2Ø
2. The polymeric blend according to Claim 1 wherein: TM2- TM1 >= 10 °C.
3. The polymeric blend according to Claim 1 wherein the weight ratio of said first polypropylene to said second polypropylene is from 1:4 to 4:1.
4. The polymeric alloy according to any of the proceeding claims wherein said first polypropylene is a metallocene random copolymer of propylene and ethylene.
5. The polymeric blend according to any of the proceeding claims wherein said first polypropylene is a copolymer of propylene and a comonomer selected from the group consisting of ethylene and a C4 to C20 .alpha.-olefin.
6. The polymeric alloy according to any of the proceeding claims wherein said second polypropylene is a copolymer formed by the polymerization of propylene and C4 to C20 .alpha.-olefin.
7. A polypropylene material having a first turbidity half time measured under quiescent conditions and a second turbidity half time measured at a wall shear stress of 0.11 MPa characterized in that a ratio of said second turbidity half time to said first turbidity half time is greater than 0.33, preferably said ratio is greater than 0.5..
8. A polymeric mixture comprising:
(i) a polymeric material according to any of the proceeding claims; and (ii) an adjunct.
(i) a polymeric material according to any of the proceeding claims; and (ii) an adjunct.
9. A polymeric mixture according to Claim 8 wherein said adjunct comprises a polymer other than said first and second polypropylenes, wherein said polymer is selected from the group consisting of polymers that are insoluble in said polymeric blend and polymers that are soluble in said polymeric blend.
10. A fiber comprising a polymeric material according to any of the proceeding claims.
11. A fiber according to Claim 10 wherein said fiber is a bicomponent fiber and said bicomponent fiber comprises a first component that is a polymeric material according to any of the proceeding claims and further comprises a second component that is a compatible resin.
12. A nonwoven material comprising fibers according to Claim 11.
13. An absorbent article comprising a nonwoven material according to Claim 12.
