Abstract
This invention is a device (20) for the transfer of body fluids which accumulate in the peritoneum cavity into the vascular system comprising a peritoneal tube (26) connected to the inlet chamber (36) of a hollow plastic implanted valve assembly. The valve assembly comprises a plastic housing (32) with an inlet and outlet, the peritoneal tube (26) being secured to the inlet leading to an inlet reservoir (36) located within the valve housing (32) and the venous tube (22) being secured to the outlet leading from the outlet reservoir (38) located within the valve housing (32). The valve housing (32) defines a valve seat (40) having a flexible diaphragm valve (56) which rests against the valve seat (40), and moves away from said valve seat (40) in response to pressure exerted thereon to permit flow of the body fluid from the peritoneum through the valve housing (32) and into the venous tubing (22).
