When it comes to investing, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board gets top marks. The independent organization was founded in 1990 to manage and administer the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (Teachers' for short), which serves some 295,000 current and retired teachers and their families. Holding net assets of more than $100 billion, the plan makes investments in stocks, bonds, private equity, commodities, and money markets, and absolute return strategies. Its holdings include significant stakes in Northumbrian Water Group, GNC, and InterGen. One of Canada's largest investors, Teachers' is also an active owner participating in the growth and management of its holdings.
