Description

Loblaw Companies Limited is a food distributor and a provider of drugstore, general merchandise and financial products and services. The Company operates in two segments: Retail and Financial Services. The Retail segment consists primarily of food and also includes drugstore, gas bars, apparel and other general merchandise. The Financial Services segment, which includes credit card services, a retail loyalty program, insurance brokerage services, personal banking services provided by a Canadian chartered bank, deposit taking services and telecommunication services. It offers control (private) label program, including the President�s Choice, no name and Joe Fresh brands. During the year ended December 31, 2011, it opened 26 corporate and franchise stores and closed seven corporate and franchise stores. In 2011, the Company launched over 1,100 new control label products. The Company�s parent is George Weston Limited (Weston) which owns approximately 63% of the Company.
