International Power plc is a holding company. The principal activities of the Company are the generation and sale of electricity, and other closely related activities, such as downstream liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas distribution, desalination and retail. It is a independent electricity generating company operating across 30 countries with 75,579 megawatts gross (43,288 megawatts net) in operation and a programme of 12,820 megawatts gross (5,868 megawatts net) projects under construction. The Company operates in six separate geographic regions, which include Latin America; North America; UK-Europe; Middle East, Turkey & Africa; Asia, and Australia. On February 3, 2011, the Company acquired GDF SUEZ Energy International from Electrabel S.A. (Electrabel), a wholly owned subsidiary of GDF SUEZ S.A. (GDF SUEZ). GDF SUEZ Energy International consists of GDF SUEZ�s Energy International Business Areas (outside Europe) and certain assets in the United Kingdom and Turkey.
