John Hancock Premium Dividend Fund (the Fund) is a closed-end diversified management investment company. The Fund�s investment objective is to provide a high current income, consistent with modest growth of capital for holders of its common shares. The Fund will pursue its objective by investing in a diversified portfolio comprised primarily of dividend paying preferred securities and common equity securities. The Fund invests at least 80% of its assets in dividend paying securities. The Fund normally will invest at least 25% of its managed assets in securities of companies in the utilities industry. The Fund invests in sectors, such as utilities, financials, energy, telecommunication services, consumer staples, industrials, consumer discretionary and short-term investments. The Fund�s investment advisor is John Hancock Advisers, LLC.
