John Hancock Tax-Advantaged Global Shareholder Yield Fund (the Fund) is a diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Fund�s investment objective is to provide total return consisting of a high level of current income and gains and long term capital appreciation. The Fund will invest at least 80% of its total assets in a diversified portfolio of dividend-paying stocks of issuers located worldwide. The Fund also focuses to write call options on a variety of both the United States and non-United States broad-based indices. It invests in sectors, such as utilities, telecommunication services, consumer staples, financials, industrials, energy, healthcare, information technology, consumer discretionary and materials. The Fund�s investment advisor is John Hancock Advisers, LLC, a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Manulife Financial Corporation. Its sub-advisors are Epoch Investment Partners, Inc. and Analytic Investors, LLC.
