Invesco Municipal Trust, formerly Invesco Van Kampen Municipal Trust, is a diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Trust provides investors with a current income exempt from federal income tax, consistent with preservation of capital, through investment in a portfolio of municipal securities. The Trust invests in municipal securities, which are rated investment grade by at least one nationally recognized statistical rating organization and that are exempt from federal taxes. Municipal obligations include municipal bonds, municipal notes, municipal commercial paper and lease obligations. The Trust also invests in non-investment grade and unrated securities. It may invest in municipal securities, which pay interest that is subject to the federal alternative minimum tax. The Fund is managed by Invesco Advisers, Inc. (Invesco).
