Description

Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (Brookfield) is a global alternative asset manager. As of December 31, 2011, it had approximately $150 billion in assets under management. The Company has a range of public and private investment products and services. The Company operates in five segments: Renewable Power, Property, Infrastructure, Private Equity, and Asset Management and Other Services. It operates and manages: hydroelectric power generating facilities, as well as a range of wind farms; commercial real estate, which includes office and retail properties in addition to investments in real estate, financial lending and office and retail developments; infrastructure, focused on utilities, transport, energy and timber sectors; private equity, which includes restructuring and special situations, as well as residential and agricultural development. In February 2013, it acquired a portfolio of 19 apartment communities with 4,892 units located in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
