Maine Central Railroad provides freight transportation services in the northeastern US. The company is owned by Pan Am Railways (formerly Guilford Rail System), which in turn is a unit of Pan Am Systems (formerly Guilford Transportation Industries). In addition to Maine Central Railroad, the Pan Am Railways system includes the formerly independent Boston & Maine and Springfield Terminal railroads. Overall, Pan Am Railways operates over a network of about 2,000 miles of track in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and parts of Canada bordering the Atlantic.
