This school may sound "college like," but it's really meant for Kindergartners through 12th graders. Collegiate School has some 1,500 students enrolled in its lower school (grades K through 4th), middle school (grades 5th through 8th), and upper school (grades 9th through 12th). The private school's offerings include multiple foreign languages, individual music instruction, and community service and travel opportunities. Collegiate was founded in 1915 as Collegiate School for Girls in downtown Richmond, Virginia, by Helen Baker with help from Mary Carter Anderson. Just 13 years after its founding, boys were admitted, but just to the Kindergarten. The first group of boys actually graduated in 1963.
