American Realty Capital Trust (ARCT) isn't afraid to stand alone. The self-administered and self-advised real estate investment trust (REIT) owns a portfolio of more than 480 single-tenant, freestanding commercial properties (as opposed to strip malls or shopping centers with multiple tenants) located in 43 states and Puerto Rico. Almost half of its properties are leased by top tenants Bridgestone, CVS, Dollar General, FedEx, PNC Bank, and Walgreens. Formed by American Realty Capital in 2007, the REIT went public via an IPO in February 2012. In January 2013 Realty Income acquired ARCT for nearly $3 billion in cash, stock, and debt.
