In case anyone was wondering where the West began, the City of Fort Worth has claimed bragging rights. With a population of more than 700,000 residents, the other half of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex spans some 350 square miles across North Texas. Fort Worth is run by a mayor and eight city council members (all elected to two-year terms), along with a council-appointed city manager. The council also appoints the city attorney, secretary, auditor, and municipal judges. Home to the Fort Worth Stockyards, the city municipality boasts a budget of approximately $1.3 billion and is responsible for economic and workforce development, public education, transportation, and public safety.
