The SF Newspaper Company owns and operates the San Francisco Examiner, a free daily newspaper that serves the Bay Area in competition with the San Francisco Chronicle (owned by Hearst Newspapers). The tabloid paper covers news, politics, and sports, as well as lifestyle and entertainment. In addition to its print edition, the San Francisco Examiner publishes news online. The company is part of Clarity Media Group, publisher of the Washington Examiner and citizen journalist site Examiner.com. Owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz, Clarity Media is affiliated with his Anschutz Company holdings. The Examiner was once a cornerstone of William Randolph Hearst's newspaper empire; it was purchased by Anschutz in 2004.
