To get to the tip-top of the international film market, some filmmakers turn to Optimum to shop their product. Optimum Releasing distributes films internationally in theaters, on television, and via online media. The company releases DVDs through its Optimum Home Entertainment unit. Other units focus on classic films and on distribution in Asia. Optimum was one of the first buyers to pick up the controversial hit documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 at the Cannes Film Festival. More recent Optimum Releasing successes include The Wrestler, Persepolis, and Ponyo. Optimum was founded in 1999 by chairman Will Clarke, and was acquired by StudioCanal in 2006.
