Participant Media (formerly Participant Productions) produces movies that put human and social issues in the spotlight. Possibly best known for the 2006 Al Gore documentary on global warming An Inconvenient Truth, the media company releases documentaries and feature films and creates social marketing campaigns to coincide with the release of those films. They have included The Kite Runner, Murderball, and Syriana. Participant works with not-for-profit and social sector organizations to create action, discussion, and education programs. It is also involved in television production. The company was founded in 2004 by chairman Jeff Skoll, eBay's founding president.
