Demon Deacons may sound like a weary clergyman's nightmare, but at Wake Forest, they're something to cheer about. Wake Forest University (WFU), home of the Demon Deacon mascot, is a private liberal arts institution that operates through about half a dozen colleges and schools: law, medicine, arts and sciences, business and accountancy, management, and divinity. WFU provides more than 35 majors and offers a low student-faculty ratio of 10:1. Its 7,400 students can also study abroad in France, Spain, Japan, and Cuba, among other countries. WFU, known to give a laptop computer to each undergraduate, was established in 1834 in Wake Forest, North Carolina. It moved to its present location in Winston-Salem in 1956.
