Francesca's Holdings likes to see its customers holding the bag - and the bag full of its trendy wares. The company sells apparel and accessories to 18-to-35 year old women at nearly 240 Francesca's Collections shops in about 40 states. While opening about 70 new stores a year, it promotes an independent, upscale boutique image by allowing store managers to personalize shops. Francesca's Collections also deliberately carries limited quantities of a given item in order to foster a "treasure hunt atmosphere." It relies on a mix of half apparel and half jewelry and accessories along with frequent product turnover to encourage customers to return often. Formed in 1999, the company filed to go public in 2011.
