Although this Penn is mighty indeed, powerful is a more apt description. Organized in 1930, Pennsylvania Power (Penn Power), serves 160,000 customers in a 1,100 square mile region of western Pennsylvania. The company's 1,200 MW of power is primarily generated at its fossil-fueled (Bruce Mansfield and W.H. Sammis) and nuclear (Beaver Valley and Perry) power plants. Penn Power maintains nearly 6,000 miles of distribution and transmission lines. The company is owned by Ohio Edison Company (which itself is a wholly-owned subsidiary of utility holding company FirstEnergy).
