A pine box it is not. Batesville Casket, founded in 1884, is a leading maker of bronze, copper, stainless steel, steel, and hardwood caskets. It also makes urns and other memorial products for the growing cremation niche. The company's direct sales force sells Batesville caskets and other products to about 12,000 licensed funeral homes across North America, as well as in Puerto Rico, the UK, South Africa, and Australia. Batesville makes most of its caskets in the US, but operates additional manufacturing plants in Mexico. Batesville Casket, a subsidiary of Batesville Services, is ultimately owned by Hillenbrand, a company created when Hillenbrand Industries spun off its funeral services unit in 2008.
