After more than a century, ACF Industries is still on track making railcars and railcar components. ACF (originally The American Car and Foundry Co.) manufactures and fabricates an array of transportation equipment for the new railcar and repair railcar markets, as well as custom steel parts for non-rail customers. Operations include facilities in Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, which churn out related products, such as weld sub-assemblies, pressure vessels, and wheel and axle machining and mounting. ACF is owned by financier Carl Icahn, who serves as chairman. Icahn is a major stockholder and chairman of American Railcar Industries and American Railcar Leasing, trade affiliates of ACF railcar components.
