Plenty of groups exist to fight alcoholism and drug abuse; this group also fights the stigma associated with alcoholism and drug addiction. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) provides advocacy, education, and support for the public with concerns about alcoholism and dependence on drugs. Its programs include awareness-raising events and press releases, prevention and treatment programs, and its Registry of Addiction Recovery, or ROAR, for recovering addicts who aren't afraid to go public and help fight the stigma. The organization also runs a Web site providing medical and scientific information for parents and others concerned about drinking and drug use. NCADD was founded in 1944.
