In Northwestern England, Mersey Docks and Harbour (MDHC) operates the deepwater Port of Liverpool on the River Mersey. Encompassing some 1,200 acres of docks on both banks of the Mersey and handling about 700,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units a year, the port serves as the UK's largest transit point for grain and animal feed imports and recycled metal exports. MDHC additionally offers services that include warehousing, ship repair, towage, and bunkering at the port of Liverpool and operates a container terminal.
