An evangelical Christian institution, Azusa Pacific University (APU) has an enrollment of more than 8,500 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. It offers approximately 60 fields of undergraduate study and about 30 graduate programs. Undergraduate students are required to complete ministry and service credits every semester; options include participating in ministries, international service experience, and doing volunteer work. APU traces its roots to 1899 and the Training School for Christian Workers, the West Coast's first bible college. In addition to its main campus, the university has seven regional centers in Southern California.
