Keeping the lights on in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Blue Ridge Electric Membership transmits and distributes electricity in the mountains and valleys of North Carolina. The utility provides power to about 73,390 customers, who are also its member-owners, in all or parts of seven counties (Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, and Watauga, and parts of Alexander, Avery and Wilkes counties). The electric cooperative's Blue Ridge Energies, LLC for-profit subsidiary sells propane, commercial gasoline, and other heating fuels to customers in the same service area.
