Today's soldier needs more than just a horse and a Colt .45-caliber handgun, and to its benefit Colt Defense has changed with the times. The company produces small arms and weapon systems primarily for the US and Canadian military and law enforcement agencies. It has also supplied the armies of about 90 other countries. Colt Defense holds multiyear contracts as a prime contractor to the US Department of Defense (its largest customer) and the Canadian Department of National Defence. The company's products include military rifles (M4 carbine rifles and M16 rifles), auxiliary weapon systems (M203 grenade launchers), law enforcement firearms, and spare parts and replacement kits. A new chief executive took over in late 2010.
