Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA) is so huge, it might be quicker to list the things it doesn't do. Established in 1952, SCOA is the largest wholly-owned subsidiary of Japanese trading and investment colossus Sumitomo Corporation. Through more than 10 US offices and 40 subsidiaries and affiliates, SCOA is engaged in everything from manufacturing and construction to media and natural resources. Across its operations, SCOA is involved in distribution, project management, supply chain management, trade, technology transfer, and transportation. SCOA and parent Sumitomo are examples of the sogo shosha, or integrated trading companies, that are unique to Japan.
