Esp�rito Santo Centrais El�tricas S.A., or Escelsa, excels at lighting up Brazil. Or at least the Southeastern state of Esp�rito Santo. The company distributes electricity through its 45 million kilometer network to about 3 million residential (the majority), industrial, commercial, and rural customers via about 70 municipalities. Escelsa generates some of its own power at six plants but it mostly resells energy from ELETROBR�S subsidiary Furnas and bi-national (Brazil and Paraguay) power generator Itaipu. Escelsa is owned by Energias do Brasil, which is controlled by EDP - Energias de Portugal.
