The subsidiary (which still promotes the Esso brand, which dates back to the company's Standard Oil origins) is responsible for ExxonMobil's exploration, production operations, and gas marketing businesses in Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States. Its upstream activities are primarily conducted through Esso Exploration and Production UK Limited. The company also oversees the operation of the Fawley refinery, the largest in the UK (330,000 barrels of crude a day and 20% of the UK's refinery capacity), as well as a network of 910 Esso-branded gas stations.
