Township High School District 211 is the largest high school district in Illinois with nearly 13,000 students attending its five high schools (grades 9 to 12) -- James B. Conant, William Fremd, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, and Schaumburg -- and two special education academies. The district's student-teacher ratio is nearly 14-to-1 and serves several suburban communities 25 miles northwest of Chicago. The school district started as one school (Palatine High School) in the Palatine-Schaumburg Township area in 1875 with the first graduating class in 1877.
