Academic advancement is central at Central Michigan University (CMU). It offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional coursework through eight colleges, including business, communication and fine arts, medicine, and education and human services. The university enrolls about 29,000 students, most of which attend the main campus in Mt. Pleasant. The institution also offers off-campus courses online and from about 50 locations throughout North America. Notable alumni include former US Senator Robert P. Griffin and actor Jeff Daniels. CMU was founded in 1892 as a teachers' college.
