Poundland wants its customers to care as much as it does about the value of British Sterling. Founded in 1990, Poundland is the UK's leading single-price retailer (everything in the stores costs 1) with 340-plus storefronts throughout Britain. Stores typically carry about 3,000 products, including packaged foods and drinks, toys, movies, and an assortment of household goods; each year the chain adds new products from major manufacturers. Warburg Pincus bought the discount retailer from Advent for about 200 million ($305 million) in 2010; Poundland's management retained a minority stake. The company extended its reach to the Republic of Ireland in 2011 and has its sights set on mainland Europe, as well.
