Cool Cuts 4 Kids is a salon chain focused on keeping kids' hands busy while another set of hands creates a totally cool 'do. The company, founded in 1998, operates some 70 salons primarily in Texas, and also in about a half-dozen other states. Children sit on seats fashioned as cars or motorcycles and watch videos or play the latest Nintendo games while getting haircuts. There's even an enclosed play area for smaller kids waiting for cuts. Special services include cornrow braiding with beads or other accessories and shampoo with a chlorine removal treatment. Salon giant Regis acquired a minority stake in Cool Cuts in 2004 and exercised its option to purchase the company outright in early 2009.
