Horizon Organic Dairy prides itself on healthy people and happy cows. It sells itself as America's first national organic dairy brand offering milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, butter, sour cream, cottage cheese, and ice cream -- all produced without added pesticides, antibiotics, or growth hormones. Ninety percent of its milk supply is contracted through some 500 certified organic family farms across the US, while the other 10% is produced at Horizon's two company-owned farms in Idaho and Maryland. Horizon was founded in 1991 and acquired in 2004 for more than $200 million by the US's largest dairy producer Dean Foods and operates within its WhiteWave Foods Company segment.
