Pilkington's business plan is fairly transparent. The company produces glass for the automotive and building products industries, and it is a major supplier of glass to replacement windshield shops in Europe, the Americas, and the Asia/Pacific region. Pilkington also manufactures building products, including glass designed to insulate buildings and to control energy and noise. The company's automotive glass products are used by just about all major auto and specialized transport vehicle makers, including Toyota and General Motors. Pilkington has operations in more than thirty countries. In 2006 Pilkington was acquired by Nippon Sheet Glass Company, which previously owned about 20% of the company.
