St. John Fisher College is a Catholic liberal arts institution. The independent school offers 32 academic majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing, as well as nine pre-professional programs, a dozen master's programs, and three doctoral programs. Its enrollment includes more than 2,700 full-time undergraduate students. The student-faculty ratio is 13:1. St. John Fisher College was founded in 1948 as a Catholic college for men; it did not become coeducational until 1971, and today almost 60% of the student body is female. The college is guided by the educational philosophy of the Congregation of St. Basil.
