With a long and storied history, Barnardo's is dedicated to supporting children and young people in need throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The not-for-profit organization helps some 190,000 children and their families suffering from issues such as abuse, poverty, homelessness, and exploitation. It is also focused on helping children who take the role of primary caregiver in their family. Barnardo's operates about 500 shops across the UK, as well as an online store in order to raise funds for its more than 800 projects. The organization was formed by Dr. Thomas Barnardo in 1867 to provide for orphans and destitute children. It is led by chief executive HRH the Duchess of Cornwall.
