A tip for travelers: Transhumance is the technical word for the seasonal movement of sheep between mountainous and lowland pastures. Then again, Transhumance Holding, dba Superior Farms, is the largest processor and marketer of lamb in the US. Superior buys lamb from ranchers in the US Midwest and Pacific Coast, and Australia, to supply naturally raised (hormone-free) "pure" lamb, and minimally processed domestic and Australian lamb and veal mainly for the US market. Products are sold under its namesake brand, appended by American or Australian Lamb, Mediterranean Grill, and Pure Lamb, to retail food chains, such as Wal-Mart and Kroger, and restaurants. Founded in 1963, Superior is an employee-owned company.
