Under analysis, id Software may posit that the virtual boodthirst its players exhibit comes from an instinctual and unconscious part of the psyche. The video game maker is best known for titles in its popular "Doom" and Quake series, in which the primary objective is to kill -- or frag, in gamer parlance -- as many opponents as possible. The company continues to develop sequels to its classics as well as new titles. id's games are predominately made for PCs operating Windows; some titles are available for Mac. id Software was acquired in 2009 by ZeniMax Media and will operate as a subsidiary under the direction of founder John Carmack who established the company in 1991.
