The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) works to increase and improve opportunities for the largest and fastest-growing Hispanic group in the US. One of the largest Latino not-for-profit organizations in the nation, MAOF serves more than 100,000 Californians. It provides funding for a wide variety of advocacy programs, including nutrition and health awareness, childcare centers, and literacy initiatives. The East Los Angeles-based group also offers computer classes and other career training at no cost to qualified individuals. Sometimes referred to as an "urban Cesar Chavez," Dr. Dionicio Morales founded MAOF in 1963; Morales died in September 2008.
