The Division of the Military and Naval Affairs, run by the Adjutant General, is the headquarters for all of New York State's fighting men and women including the Army National Guard, the Air National Guard, the New York Guard, and the New York Naval Militia. The DMNA performs administrative duties, oversees training, prepares the militia to assist in emergency situations, and carries out the federal functions needed to support the National Guard divisions. New York's Naval Militia is the only active organization of its kind with continuous service since its official founding in 1889 (though it traces its roots to the American Revolution).
