The author did an excellent job in exploring the heroic phases of Beowulf's life which has an expanse of fifty years.
In his youth, Beowulf has the charisma of a great warrior with unrivaled
courage and strength. He is known for his loyalty, courtesy, and pride. His career as a distinguished warrior did prepped him for the throne. In his later years, Beowulf's remarkable respect for the throne endeared him a worthy king.

Great translation

Beowulf is both an interesting read (from an analytic and allegoric stance) and an enjoyable read; the translator, I thought, captured the poetry and diction quite well.

Beowulf is a brilliant demonstration both of the power of ancient legend and of the beauty, richness, and majesty of the English language. Though Old English is largely unintelligible to the modern reader, it is a poetic, elegant language in its own right. Seamus Heaney's translation preserves the meter and the soul of the epic as no other translation does. I fell in love with this book at a very young age, and will never cease to be utterly fascinated by the style and the natural rhythm of the Anglo-Saxon language.

God, I loved this one. Don't ask me why I connected with it so much, but I've read it three times and wouldn't hesitate to read it again. Maybe it was the verse or maybe it was just a good teacher, but I loved everything about reading this. Read full review

I like this translation by Seamus Heaney. Technically, it's not a great "authentic" translation, but it does a good job of modernizing the text for anyone who doesn't read Old English. Yes, he added a bit of Irishness (what do you expect?) but I find that forgivable. Read full review
